Another Newbie, from Florida, first Tacoma, and I have a question. When starting my 01 Tacoma in Florida, it starts and idles at 1500 rpm, within seconds comes down to 1250 rpms, then takes about 3 minutes and 45 seconds to drop to 1000 rpms. It seems like a long time to idle at before dropping to 1000rpms. Is this normal for these trucks? I have 69k on it and removed throttle body and IAC valve and cleaned it and seems to make no difference.

It’s the timing belt with those miles?

All depends on coolant temp and start programming.
Especially If it's the first start of the day sounds normal to me.

If your AC is on that will affect it too.

Mine always did that on the first start of the day and would drop as soon as I left park. At first it was odd and annoying but after a bit I just got used to it.
