    That’s good to know!
But I was asking more so if I were to buy bare metal sliders how easy is it to paint and what kinda paint to get some texture/traction?

For what it’s worth, I’ve had sliders with both textured and non textured. I much prefer the non textured. My kids are still young enough that they require lifting into/out of the truck (3yo/1yo) so take that into account. But for personal entry/exiting the smooth powder coating is so much nicer than the bedliner I had on a previous set of sliders.

I’ll take a little shin banger over road rash any day.

I did the spray on bed liner on my sliders. It gives a good texture but isn't skin-scraping on the abrasion scale. I don't think I put primer on mine before spraying them and wish that I had. It's held up pretty well for the 9 or so years that they have been on the truck, but it is time to touch them up.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Yeah what he said... some more info for ya from a trip we took.

Thanks I figured the rattle can approach will do it and just touch up will be a breeze thru the years.

Use the self-etching primer first. You'll get a better adhesion and won't need to touch it up as much. Mine has worn off mostly where I step over the years. I recently got some plastic to mask the truck and plan to respray the whole slider.

I ran Hankook Dynapro ATm's for around 2 years and loved the heck out of them. They pretty much exceeded my expectations in everything except for sticky mud. I'm running C Load DuraTracs right now and truth be completely told I kind of miss my Hankooks. Got way better gas mileage with them, but the DuraTracs definitely perform better offroad.

I bought all my armor (streamline front, all 3 skids, sliders, hc rear w swingout) from SOS bare and painted myself.

I did a few methods, but the best / most durable was to grind rough edges smooth with a grinding disc on an angle grinder then hit it with a paint stripping disc until it was corrosion free elsewhere. I then wiped it all off using an old towel to get all the metal dust off. I painted on a THICK coat with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0070S7U4Y/ and let it dry for about a week to REALLY cure before putting it on. A basic foam brush from Home Depot works great, but buy a 10 pack (for like $5), you'll need 3 or 4 to paint a bumper because they fall apart.

I had a few chips and they touched up great. Most of it has been on there for more than two years and still looks great. It's more durable than powdercoat and touches up easier, so it's definitely worth the labor.

Great stuff Dave! Thanks for taking the time to write this up...

Looks like your sliders are 0 degree? How Do their sliders come standard? I’m on the fence about 0 vs ~15

I prefer angle because they look like wings and look cooler. I’m sure there’s a “technical” reason but meh

I’ve seen plenty of pics of 25* and look nice and tight but appear to lose their ability to use as a step (again, kids...). So thinking maybe in the middle around 15* ?

I went through this recently when picking sliders. I ended up with 5* thinking it might be a good compromise. I believe the angles are so minute that they really don’t offer much of a step in any configuration. I use mine for accessing the RTT and roof washing but other than that I find myself and passengers stepping over them opposed to on.

0 degree with kickout for my sliders. Their sliders are 15 degree by default. http://sosoffroadconcepts.com/2016-tacoma-100-bolt-on-sliders/

The 0 degree was no extra cost, I just had to request it. They sit farther out and are better steps, which I use a lot to get on the roof to tie down stuff. I feel like 0 degree sliders protect the truck better too. I haven't hung them up in a tight turn but have high centered on them lots of times from the DCLB being so long. The 0 degree sliders keep the dirt further from the paint and the truck more stable when that happens.
