Parked my truck outside and it was cold this morning (15 F) and started the truck up and let it run a few mins, when i took off and the heat (on auto 75 deg) started to ramp up i could hear a faint clicking noise coming from the fan on the passenger side---sounds to me like it was coming from where the cabin filter area...the noise went away once the truck warmed up but curious if anyone else notices that noise? My music wasn't on at all so i was able to hear it, but any noise would drown out the clicking noise

The HVAC blower is located in the dash on the passenger side, below the glove box. Mine started buzzing (running out of balance) around 30,000 miles.

It's a ~$40 part (online dealer price) and takes about 10 minutes to replace. If you look under the dash on the passenger side, you can see it. It will have 3 small hex screws and a wire harness connected to it.

You can also try pulling that out and making sure nothing fell into the blower to make the noise and/or that the filter didn't come apart to make contact with the blower. I suspect it's more likely that the blower just needs to be replaced, though.

Great thanks for the info! I'll check the cabin filter first to see but seems if its only happening when cold maybe the blower is going, im still under warranty for another week so might make an appt but it only happens when its cold so i imagine they would need to keep it overnight which i'd rather not go without the truck unless they give me a loaner

I'm guessing your truck is out of warranty? My truck is a 2010, purchased new in 2012; I brought the truck to the dealer in late 2011 or early 2012 when the truck was still under warranty, and the dealer replaced the whole squirrel cage assembly under warranty...

They had the part in stock, and I got the truck back within a couple hours!

There is a recall for that blower motor/ fan. Get it to the dealer.

Because it's such a cheap part and a quick fix, I didn't even bother with the warranty. It's a lot more hassle and time than $40 was worth to me. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Mine broke before the recall and they fixed it. A year later it broken again and was replaced under the recall with the new updated part

My heater started making the same noise last year, and obviously the truck was way out of warranty; My plan was to buy the part from the dealer and either install it myself or have my independent mechanic do it...

The dealer wanted like $240 for the part (not including labor) and I was about to buy it; Luckily I didn't, because my mechanic found a non-OEM blower for eighty bucks ($80). He ordered it, installed it with me watching so I'd know how to replace it in the future if the need arose, and only charged me for the part (no labor)!

Do you happen to have the link you purchased from? Just want to have a plan B for when my dealer (although they have been very helpful) tells me they can't hear shit because they all apparently have 75 year old hearing.

If you want to make it noticeable.... leave fan on high and turn the truck off. When the truck is started again, the fan will kick on. That initial jolt/torque on it will get it to make more noise.

I think the recall applies to models without automatic climate controls.

I vaguely remember reading that recall notice and it said the automatic controls have a slow ramp up and the manual ones don't and thus are susceptible to breaking.
