Service Items_Injector clean and clean carbon from top of engine question

I am recovering from shoulder surgery so I took my 2106 Tacoma to the dealer for an oil change since they offered a discount. They recommend a fuel injection cleaning for $166 and a "clean the carbon from the top of the engine, including pistons, intake and exhaust valves" $203.

Do they actually do anything or spray something into the intake? I can't picture them actually accessing the valves and pistons for $203. Looking to understand the nuts and bolts of both services and if I can do it myself. I just replaced the front brakes so I am comfortable changing parts, but nothing too technical.

Shouldn't have issues with carbon if you do regular hard pulls and shift at high RPMs.

Get the RPMs and intake velocity moving.

 

It was based on mileage not performance. Rec @ 60,000

 

Don't these engines go through a self cleaning cycle?

 

I thought so, isn't that what that tapping noise is? I was curious if anybody knows exactly what they do when they perform these two services?

No where on a service 3 does it say to clean the carbon or flush the injectors. They are looking to take your money.

 

This is one of those services where they bend you over and fuck you without a reach around or lube. You should take your truck somewhere else to have the oil change done if you are able to. Or if you're bored ask for specifics on what they do for these services and let us know so we all get a good laugh.

Now I'm really curious about what they actually do for the two recommended services. I had and have no intention to pay for any of this but I would like to know what it is that they physically do when performing these two items. I just can't picture how they clean carbon off valves and pistons. Combined, its about $400. And I wonder how many customers just do whatever their Service Adviser says.

 

Service advisers, like most dealership employees, are straight up slimy cunts.

 

They probably dump a $6 bottle of Techron in there and keep it in the shop for 4 hours.

 

Name brand gasoline is the best solvent for removing carbon build up and if you really want to be anal about it hook up an oil catch can to your pvc system to catch the blow by that is normally burnt in the combustion chamber.

 

When I worked for VW we had big carbon build up issues on the 2.0 tsi engines.

The "decarb" that we did was we hang a a bottle of the carbon clean from the hood, it slowly flows into the intake and sprays the valves and pistons. We run the engine up to 3k and it goes for about 20-30 minutes like this. Sometime we had to run this process a few times to clean the carbon enough to make the check engine light turn off.

I dont think the tacoma has carbon issues, so you should be fine with good gas and maybe a bottle of cleaner every once and awhile.

 

My buddy that's a dealer tech was telling me a work story (venting) and in his story, he mentioned the service writer was selling "wallet flushes", I had to laugh.
