I see the same thing from my perspective of owning a '96 BMW Z3. They were originally launched in '96 with a choice of a 1.8l 4-cyl stripped Euro version or a 1.9l 4-cyl standard version. The design made it nearly perfectly balanced - 51%-49% weight ratio - a classic roadster designed to live in the twisties of European roads. And then, the "it needs more Hp and options" crowd stepped in and BMW followed with bigger engines, MPower and goodies. The current Z4 is more like a mid-size luxury car than the original Roadster. And the subsequent models could never perform the same in the twisties as the original. Sure, they can pull away on a straight but get them back in tight turns and a driver who knows how to work a 4 speed manual can hang and outrun them.

Toyota, it seems, has not succumbed as BMW has. While they have added more comfort items over time they have generally stuck to their design concept....it is those who want them to be what they're not even as they buy them, sometimes multiple times, who are ultimately dismayed.

    Just my own $.02. YMMV.

I think the 1996 was the first year I drove, my boss made me learn to drive a stick on his truck. His was nice and pretty decked out. But later on I drove a couple 70s or early 80s sr5 PUs with the 22RE I think. Those were a blast, but nothing fancy at all.

I’m not going to lie. If money wasn’t an obstacle I would drive one. Why not?

My personal opinion, greatness used to mean reliable and affordable. Now it means extravagant, luxury add whatever else ya want. by today’s standards it wasn’t great. But step back and clearly it was and is a great platform.

Today’s standards, yeah. I feel like the typical vehicle buyer is disappointed if it doesn’t have a refrigerated center console. So weird.

Every Tacoma comes factory with a drone landing pad. Depending on how you option it, it can be 5 foot or 6 foot in length. It has sides to block wind for precision landing and smooth take offs. Some even come equipped with an upper deck and a hanger underneath. If you are really skilled you can even open the soft opening hanger door and land/launch from inside the hanger. Also the hanger is convertible. Some have rubber matting for softer landings. And tie downs. All the convenience of a mobile drone carrier. Get some Corolla's and 86's to escort and you got yourself a carrier group for ultimate superiority.

The only thing Toyota should do is sell a diesel version in the United States because it be cool as hell and make the emissions devices easy to disable to boot :D
