yes, when truck is running its so quiet you can barely hear it...thats why i did with just ignition on

 

I was hoping it may have been a low voltage thing. I guess not.

Are both fuses in good shape? Maybe pull them and reseat them?

 

Hoping for some help from this thread... I added a Viair 450C-IG to the truck and that thing was chooching along great. I used a remote filter and put a chuck on the rear bumper. I went offroading and dropped off a ledge, taking a hard hit to the HC rear, and I broke a bunch of crap.

1. The hose from the compressor was already stretched tight, and it looks like it pulled too tight, the metal is fraying on it. Where can I get a new metal output hose (leader hose?) like that?
2. I hooked the output hose into a threaded fitting, and put a threaded chuck on the other side with a quick disconnect connector. Both the threaded portion AND the quick disconnect both are cracked. I think I may have overtightened them. What is the right way to do a manifold through a bumper so it doesn't break next time?
3. I mounted it upside down. Is that a problem?

 

Hoses are common items, just need the correct thread on both ends. Our compressors typically use the same hoses as lightweight 1-4 gallon 120v compressors. A good contractor supply can identify it for you or contact Vair direct for replacement parts. Next time leave more slack near the bumper, maybe a loop up into the bedwall. Unless the chuck takes a direct hit it shouldn't be a problem. One side of the license plate well makes a protected location. Upside down could collect crap if you dont use a chair leg bumper as a cover. They actually make custom plugs for this, a sort of qr connector plug.

 

Open it up and make sure the relays aren't corroded.
They aren't water proof relays and both of mine got water in them and it just stopped working.

This might sound weird but when I previously had a Viair 450, the compressor seized up from constant mud/water (in bed cubby). I switched the power and ground wires and it kick started momentarily in reverse. Switched the wires back and it was good as new.

 

Hey all. I have both a complete VIair System with tank and compressor and a ARB Single Compressor. Which do you think would be better? I may sell one or the other depending on which is best.

I would personally use the ARB compressor and the rest of the VIAIR stuff.

Anyone have that little metal backer plate from their ARB compressor they'd be willing to part with? I'm in need of one, and you can't buy that part individually.

 

What is that part even for. It seems useless because its not like its even a bracket to mount to something else. Why can you just bold the compressor to what you want to mount it to?

 

Its meant for if you were mounting it to something like a prefab building or sheet metal that it isnt strong enough to bolt to on its own.

That said, my use has nothing to do with compressed air funny enough. I use them to mount my ham antennas to my prinsu.

Is anyone using a job site type compressor that plugs into the bed outlet? And if so how’s it working out? I’m trying to decide whether I’m going to go with a permanently mounted OBA setup or a compressor that I can use in the garage when I’m not driving the truck.

 

No. Those compressors draw more power than the stock inverter can handle

 

It’s pretty inefficient to use a DC>AC converter in conjunction with a compressor rather than a strictly 12V DC compressor alone. A 120V AC compressor is more efficient than a 12V DC model but not when you have to run it from an inverted even if you had one with enough juice.
