If it makes you feel better, my Ford dealer sends me 1 email & 1 letter a month telling me that my car from the last decade is highly desirable and they are willing to pay thousands over value for it. They don't specify my car type or an offer price. Lol. Also got 2-3 robo Expired Warranty robo calls a day after taking it in for the airbag recall and giving them my phone #.

Kingston I was really surprised when LW research / Alder Weiner called and had my DOB/ address / Vin # etc ,thast how much Toyota has given them and other groups . I wasn't aware of the OPT out in 2014 when I purchased the Tacoma.
Sorry I am 51 we didn't have all this BS computer stuff back in the day . We just brought a car and we were on our own lol ,

It's a scary world, so easy for anybody to find out personal info about anybody. Factor in all the data breaches from big name places and it's a wonder that any of us have any privacy anymore.

Last month (but possibly very early this month), I got three calls from the same number in a matter of hours; I finally answered the phone on the third call just for grins...

A woman with a thick Indian accent addressed me by name, asked if I still owned the 2006 Toyota Camry (she specifically said "the" instead of "a"), and claimed to be from a warranty department of some sort.

My Tacoma has been my only vehicle since I got my license; My parents bought a Toyota Camry LE V6 new in 1990 and owned it until 1998, and my dad owned an '83 Celica GT from 1983 to 1990, but my Tacoma has been the only Toyota in my family for the last decade!

I told the woman I had never owned a Camry in my life, and she apologized, which was followed by a long pause; I told her that I owned a Toyota Tacoma, she asked about the warranty on my truck (which has been expired since September 2014), and I hung up and blocked the number...

It was the same number all three times, and it came from my area code in a town about 30-40 minutes away from me.

I am 99.9% sure this was not a scam or spam of any kind, but I still find it highly amusing to this very day, even more than five years after it happened!

I believe this happened towards the end of the summer or possibly the early fall of 2014, so September-October. I was at my desk (in my bedroom) on my computer, and I got a call from a local area code; I was expecting a call back from potential employer if I remember correctly, and I didn't know their number, so that's why I answered it...

I answered it and said hello, and the woman on the other end asked if I was Charlie so-and-so...

I said yes, and she proceeded to ask me if I knew anything about a Uhaul truck that hadn't been returned; I asked her what she was talking about, because I honestly had no idea!

She told me that Charlie so-and-so had rented a Uhaul truck from a rental place down in the Main Line area or something (which is not only in a different county, but at least an hour from where I live). I told her that I had no idea what she was talking about, and that I'd never rented anything from Uhaul in my life. She seemed to get a bit more aggressive, and asked me if I was sure I didn't have the Uhaul…

At this point, I got rather pissed off at this woman and proceeded to calmly but firmly read her the riot act; I told her again that I had never rented a Uhaul truck in my life, that I was looking out my window at my driveway and the only truck parked there was MINE. I also told her that my dad rented a Uhaul in August 2014, but he had returned it when he was supposed to. I finally told her that I lived quite a good distance from the location this truck had gone missing from. She apologized and told me to have a good day, and I hung up; I then blocked the number for good measure...

I find it pretty pathetic that in 2014, when a truck or trailer went missing, Uhaul was resorting to cold-calling everyone in a certain radius with the same first and last name as the customer who'd last renting it! I would also like to point out that in 2014, I did not have a credit card of my own. I had a debit card, but I'm 99% sure that like traditional rental car companies, Uhaul only rents to people with a traditional card; If Uhaul had done research, they probably would have figured out that I didn't have a credit card!

We used to get extended warranty calls for vehicles we have never owned. Got three calls yesterday but they didn't specify which vehicle. In the past we got calls from a live person. When we asked which vehicle they were talking about, they just said 'the vehicle you currently own'.

When I bought my new house I received tons of junk mail about refinancing my loan and all sorts of loan protection insurances and home warranties. I did some research on why I was getting these mailings and turns out these companies pull your info from the county offices when your deed is recorded. Pisses me off how they are allowed to do that. I understand it's public info, but it's a shady way to get leads for solicitation, it should be illegal.

Right after my parents bought a brand new house in 2007, we got a call on the landline...

He asked for my dad by first and last name and he was very friendly, so I assumed it was somebody from work; I gave the phone to my dad and walked away...

A short time later, my dad told me it was an insurance agent trying to sell him a policy (It may have been something about refinancing the house but I'm pretty sure it was about homeowner's insurance), and asked me why I'd given him the phone...

I told him that I assumed it was somebody from work and, needless to say, we were a lot more careful about screening calls after that!

A brand new subdivision of high-end townhouses like the one where we lived from 2007 to 2016 was the equivalent of dumping bucket of blood and fish guys into shark-infested waters...

In 2007-2008, within the first six to nine months my parents owned the house, it seemed like every other week we'd get someone at our front door trying to sell window treatments (blinds)! It was a different person every time, but you could tell they were from the same company because they always asked "Is the lady of the house at home?" or "May I speak with the lady of the house?"

    :annoyed:

This was very annoying to me! There were many single and/or recently divorced guys living in the neighborhood, and at least two gay couples; I can only imagine how they felt when some perfect stranger knocked on their door at all hours and asked if "the lady of the house" was home. My plan was to tell the next glorified window treatment-monger who showed up that it was my house, and ask how I could help them; My parents gave me their blessing to do this, but it never came to fruition because they stopped coming :(

One time in early 2009, I was cornered in the driveway by a Jehova's Witness while walking the dog; Probably three years after my parents bought that house, the HOA put NO TRESSPASSING/NO SOLICITING signs and the unwanted solicitations pretty much stopped!

I did not communicate via text for the first time until 2007 or so (though I got my first cell phone in August 2003, right before I started high school); I joined Facebook in early 2008 at the urging of a former classmate, and all I'm gonna say is that period time between about March 2008 and when I got my learner's permit in August 2009 was a very dark period...

I had almost no social life whatsoever until early 2009, and almost all of 2008 was spent on internet or playing video games; Obviously I was not going to pay for premium upgrades on various Facebook apps, but there was a way to get "free" upgrades by signing up for certain things. This is how my cell phone number ended up where it shouldn't have...

One time in 2008, I got a call from a man who sounded like he was older (50s-60s, maybe), and he told me I'd won a $500 gift card. I had signed up for some sort of sweepstakes so it was legit, but I'd apparently misread the fine print. This man asked me if I had a job or owned a business, or something like that, and I told him I did not (I don't even think I was 19 yet) he rather rudely turned things around on me and made it seem as though I was wasting his time; Keep in mind that that asshole called me! Apparently, you had to have a very specific job (construction or something) in order to get this gift card; The man hung up on me...

In addition to the info at the dealership, the vehicles also have an electronic data recovery system. Evidently there's some confusion about what exactly it shares with the company and how it might do it. I was surprised recently when I had to have a 'hit while parked' claim investigated and the investigator plugged into my 08 and asked me about right front end damage that had happened 10 years earlier. As newer vehicles include gps units and bluetooth capabilities, it's crazy to imagine how much specific data is available. Brave new world.
