I’ve read a lot of post about this before making my own and most say their timing chain cover seeps (like mine) but oil doesn’t make it to the ground. Mine doesn’t look that bad up front but when I crawled under the truck last night I find that under the PS pump oil is dripping. Has anyone ever had it this bad?

Is it dirty oil (Engine oil)? My oil pressure transducer was leaking at one point and it leaked all down the front of the engine and all over the serpentine belt. Was as simple as replacing the sensor which is right near the inlet on the oil filter.

Try cleaning it thoroughly with engine degreaser or similar then watch to see the source of the leak.

Does yours spread all over the passenger side control arm?

Mine was worse. I ended up taking it to a mechanic. He replaced the valve cover gaskets, intake gasket, water pump, idler pulley, front main seal and harmonic balancer. Also had to replace the alternator a couple weeks before, it was covered in oil.

My 06 4.0 has 104k miles and it leaks oil. I bought it 3yrs ago with 32k miles
And it was leaking then too. Still doesn’t drip on the concrete driveway, but still annoying to know it leaks.

Maybe it will start leaking worse so i don’t have to change the oil. Just add a quart once a month and change out the oil filter accordingly:rofl:

There is a timing cover leak thread. Covers a few different methods to correct the leak.

Labor was around $360. Spent around $300-500 in parts.

@Zersko, I had exactly the same issue like yours with my 06 Tacoma. The culprit was my PS pump. I rebuilt it myself, just a bunch of gaskets and O rings to replace. I used this kit (see photo) as it is readily available, and that was around 150K miles ago. Until now, no leaks. Hope this helps.

Thank you, I will probably just replace the pump instead of rebuild. Also was yours leaking onto the passenger side boots? Mine seems to fall onto the boot then work its way down the passenger side control arm then forms a drip closest to the tire.

No, it only leaked around the PS pump...maybe I caught it early.? Rebuilding the PS is doable and fairly easy. Nothing beats the OEM PS pump that came with your Tacoma.
