I'd like to stick to the lower half with that being closer to us. I know you kind of have to get to the west side to get into the mountains. I'd like to get above the treeline as much as possible. Maybe not camp too long there, though.

    Yeah.
I've always loved the Creede/Lake City area in SW Colorado, which is where multiple generations of my family have vacationed in the summer. The Alpine Loop is a high-altitude but well-maintained loop that starts and ends in Lake City. Plenty of options in that general area for exploration and camping.

Personally, I wouldn't want to camp above tree line, but just under it is OK. If you are going to spend any extended time up that high, do it after you've been at altitude for a few days.

Like Chip said, there's lots of possibilities out there.

I'd like to make it up to Wheeler National Monument some day -- I've passed by there so many times and never knew what was up there.

@CRASHMAN50 - the turnout to the campsite is pretty obvious off Sulpher Road --- prolly fastest to come in Hwy 7 northbound, go east on Victor Road and North on Sulpher Road. There are 3 turnouts close together on the west side of Sulpher in that stretch, but coords are 35.66244, -93.01377. It's the big campsite right on the North Fork Illinois Bayou and off the road a ways. On left if you're going north. Call me if that's not mapping for you.

I'm with Rich, the Alpine Loop crosses several passes and is a very cool but popular area, and lots of info on the web about the area. You can access tons of other Forest Service roads and options for camping are endless. Scenery is some of the best mountain scenery in the country. Read up on that area and let us know if you have any specific questions. You can download all the major trails into a nav app, like Gaia, and can research camping spots on the web. Lots of Forest Service campgrounds (and free maps on the web) all over that area if you want primitive facilities. No camping allowed above timberline anywhere in CO though. Plan to drive the Million Dollar Highway, I thought Mesa Verde was amazing, Silverton, Telluride...so many options...

10-4. I've got it marked. Don't know how late y'all stay up when y'all are out camping so don't let me roll up and wake everybody up. If it's stupid late when I get there, I'll just post up down at the cemetery for the night. Ghosts are only out on Halloween, right?

Anybody here ever used a freight forwarder to ship items in a shared container over the ocean?

Check with @ChandlerDOOM he hasn't been on in a while, but he was the one moving the hardshell RTTs (the one I had) from China in containers.

Most of my time in Colorado was on two wheels, but I’ve ridden most of it. I would concentrate on two areas, Tincup Pass is fun from any direction. I wonder if the restaurant at Tincup is still open? The other area I really like is in the San Juan’s, east of Telluride west of Ouray and anywhere else in that area.

The restaurant is still open, we ate there last August, but Tin Cup was rough and pretty eaten up from the snow melt and traffic.
