Response By Email (Roy G.) (02/04/2020 01:51 PM)
    Dear Mr. Ricciardi,

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We are sorry to learn of your concerns in obtaining a roof rack for your 2020 Toyota Tacoma.

We are sorry; we do not offer a roof rack for your vehicle. We do not have any recommendations to a supplier or source that may.

In response to your question, we are sorry, we do not have any information if or when we plan to offer roof rack for the 2020 Tacoma.

You may wish to inquire with your local Toyota dealer’s Parts department to determine if they offer such a product, as our dealers may carry items that extend beyond the Genuine Toyota Parts and Accessories line. Your local Toyota dealer may be able to provide you with a referral to a company who may offer the product.

Please be aware that Toyota recommends using only Genuine Toyota Parts and Accessories for your vehicle. Non-Genuine Toyota Parts, or any damage or failures resulting from their use, are not covered by any Toyota warranty.

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

    Sincerely,

    Roy G.

I purchases a 2020 Tacoma and I need to have a roof rack. I want to have the OEM roof rack but have been told the rear cross bar can't lock into place because it interferes with the shark fin antenna. Supposedly the antenna was moved forward on the 2020 model. When are you going to make a rack available that will work?

This is what I emailed back to Toyota after I received their nonsensical response to my first inquiry.

Your response to me was totally unacceptable. You do offer a roof rack for your
vehicle. It was one of the reasons I spent $40,000+ on your product. If you go to your
website to ‘Price’ and build a 2020 Tacoma you can add a roof rack for $399. The
part number is PT278-35170. It’s the part number for all Generation 3 Tacomas.
However the Shark Fin Antenna was moved forward for some reason and the cross
bar does not go into position. I need to know what Toyota is going to do about this
problem. I never would have purchased my Tacoma if I knew the engineers screwed
up on the problem between the roof rack and the roof antenna. Awaiting your
    realistic response.

What I gather from that email is, moving forward they no longer plan on selling roof racks for Tacoma’s newer than 2020.

It does sound like either 1) They are not currently offering a roof rack till the new fin or 2) Will no longer offer it at all 2020 model year

Sounds like they owe me $400 PLUS the OEM hole stickers and gasket

They are being vague as f&$# with that response. Dealerships went ahead and slapped the rack on there, so it's a problem. It was their oversight that caused it and they should own up to it. Carguy1219 just got a reply from one of these corporate robots that are wired to deflect as best as possible. I was waiting to see what happened with this whole ordeal, but I guess i should be getting in on the action and reporting the situation as well.

@carguy1219 How did you establish contact with them? Are you contacting corporate?

I used the contact system from their website. What bothers me the most is that when you build a Taco on their website you can add the roof rack for $399. I surf fish and I need to have a roof rack to put my rod holders on. The rod racks are lockable and my rod and reel combos run over $1000. I might have to consider a cap with a roof rack. A pricey way to go.
Don't like the Prinsu type racks.

I don't carry anything to often, but I like how they look and the fact that you can retract them to reduce air noise at high speeds. Anyway, this is starting to sound like a douche move from Toyota.

For us owners of 2019’s and earlier, aren’t we excited for the discounted price on the “discontinued part”, hopefully coming soon!!!!

Sorry though OP. hoping they cut you a check to buy yourself an aftermarket rack. I had an issue with Lexus and I kept grinding them and they ultimately caved. Toyota takes care of their customers, just need to be persistent.

I sent them a strongly worded email as well. Hopefully if enough of us complain they will come up with a solution.

Likewise, although the folks at HQ were very quick to throw the dealership under the bus. They did exactly what the OFFICIAL CONFIGURATOR said was possible (and still says).

Would really like to put a ski rack on top.

I love the lame “corporate” response. It’s so typical of large companies where the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing.

Like so many others, I had planned all the while to go with the OEM roof rack. Two days ago I received an invitation from J.D. Power to complete a survey regarding my new purchase. Not sure if it will make an impact but I made it clear how frustrating it was to learn of the OEM roof rack issue.

Summer is coming and I need a solution. I have an Erickson pick-up bed extender that can be used vertically but still need something on the roof. I also have a bunch of older Yakima accessories and will attempt to use ebay Q127 clips (2nd Gen Tacoma Spec) on an Amazon 58" bar and test to see how well it works. It will clearly not be the clean look I was hoping for.

Update: The Q-Tower/Clip seems to have worked. The front bar has passed the significant "tug" (and I am a big guy) from all directions test. The greatest time was spent determining the proper settings; if you are familiar with Yakima measurements, I ended up with an M1 of 44.5" and an M2 of 9". Since I already had the towers, I was able to keep my investment down to $82 (front bar & q-clips). Once I attached the second Yakima bar I was even able to load two kayaks on top and safely travel on the highway! I hope the information helps other 2020 owners.

Spoke to my dealer last week and no updates, just said they are working on a solution. I kinda get the impression Toyota is not all that worried about finding one in a timely manor.

Didn’t see if anyone mentioned this, but I noticed you’re putting it into the rear hole in your pictures. In the deployed configuration it should go into the front hole so the bars are parallel. This may be the root of the issue?

That's where it goes on the 2019s. Otherwise it touches just like the pics

When I took mine back to the dealer to have them fix it, they did not believe me that it would not work... after two sales people tried, one mechanic, and the services manager we all agreed it would not work... not sure about different holes but it would not fit in the only hole that was on there that even came close to working.

On the 2019's the shark fin is 1.5" further back and even then it was a close tight fit, the lot still had several 2019's when I first had my issue and we parked one right next to mine and it is very noticeable side-by-side.

I am going in for my first maintenance this Monday so will hit up the services manager again then.
