I gave some bad info, after playing around with Gaia on my ipad pro, the slider I was referring to adjusts the brightness. Ok so it sounds like you downloaded maps for offline use (I have not tried this yet) if that is the case the downloaded maps must have limited zoom. :-(

Yeah, I was referring to this slider. I'm going to play around with the app some more this weekend to get more familiar with it before I make any further judgement. My experience could very well have been due to operator error. ;)

Thanks for the motivation! I did sell it today and I’m pretty sad but time to get on with it and have new and better adventures with the new one, and oh yeah,.......heated seats!

Yes the farther to the right the more detail you will save for off-line viewing. Then you should be able to get better detail at different zoom levels.

But like was said before I HIGHLY recommend you download over wifi because it eats a ton of data.

I *always* use wifi for downloading. Practically everything.

It’s a new updated version of Gaia Topo with a lot better topo lines, better labeling of features, support for dark mode, and much smaller offline downloads.

It depends on the area. Arizona is mostly covered by NatGeo maps that don’t zoom in very close but the Grand Canyon you can. Other areas Like Yosemite are covered by 2 scales because NatGeo sells a map of Yosemite that covers the whole park but also sells 4 maps that cover different quadrants of the park at zoomed in scale.

Played around a little with this yesterday...can't wait to get it out on same trails and use it! So much better than using the phone.

I thought Apple Carplay uses the vehicle's GPS antenna, is that not correct? I'm very interested in this approach vs just using a tablet on the dash magnet, but maybe I just need to get the antenna and be done with a cheaper approach.

cool, I know I want to grow with Gaia so having that ability whether through carplay (I'm an '18 so don't have it) with a headunit upgrade or just a solid tablet. I have a 1/4 20 rail for accessory mounting so a tablet will be fine.

Apple Car play uses your iPhones GPS, from what I have read most tablets that have wireless data also have a GPS, but not all. iPads do.
