When people ask me what truck I'd get if it couldn't be Toyota. I tell them a 1st gen club cab with a 12 valve.
    What's that plate off of?

My wallet. I bought it in SF at some gift shop.

I lose all self control when I see a police light bar for sale, or a license plate for sale.

I sort of collect plates. But just whatever falls into my hands from buying a used vehicle or people giving them to me. I'm no Doug DeMuro.

Oh that's right! Didn't we notice there were 2 of them? Or we only found that one plant? So you have 2 aftermarket ones to avoid. I'd just avoid the crap aftermarket, like you're doing. But that's just me. And I know you enjoy identifying the differences and documenting them. So a second Chinese factory found it worth their while to try and get into the aftermarket world of CV joints, huh?
It's usually the young kids that have less understanding of manufacturing and that such slight differences in tolerances that can have huge detrimental effect on many parts. You can tell which young guys here have some machining background here as their decisions on repair parts reflect that understanding. But Anywho. Interesting that one factory puts out multiple different quality of axles. And you will most definitely want oem rubber boots on THAT LX as the turn full time in the AWD. I'll shut up :D

We're trying to get some members to take off the inner boot on some Cardone/Napa and other aftermarket axles to see if joints are the 6-ball, 5-ball, or tripod type.

Cardone does offer a Heavy Duty version that appears to have a heavier boot. Though I cannot see how the boots would be as thick as OEM. I may have one original axle that might be good enough to reboot. So I would keep that one as a spare.

I used OEM boots and waterproof grease from Omni Lubricants when I rebuilt this new axle that I received from Advance on a warranty exchange roughly 4 years. So far is it still running smooth as butter. No vibrations, noise, or leaks. I'm tempted to take it apart at the 5-year mark to inspect the bearings.

This car is lowered and is driven fast on the interstate. Lowered versions of this car like to chew up axles much like lifted trucks.

I wish I could compare NAPA/Cardone, Import Direct, and Advance Auto axles. The remans I've seen in pictures from Cardone look like tripods instead of 5 or 6 balls on others. I might try ordering some and returning once I get past this on the 470.

So the heavy duty axle is sold under the presumption that only the boot is thicker/more durable? And that's the only differences known for now, without taking the boots off kinda thing?
Yeah that's nice to find an aftermarket axle worth rebooting like that. Just from the visible differences in the pics you posted of the axles side by side, that was enough for me. Be interesting to see the internals of the reg axle vs the 'HD' axle from the same manufacturer. It bugs me that these Chinese aftermarket producers think they can pull this crap on us. Lol, I guess it's not think they can do it to us ... They actually do do it to us because we keep buying em.
And that was funny to see Nitro gear day do not use these if you're oversized tires or if you go off road lmao... It's a GD Land Cruiser man.... :boom:

Oh really? In pics you can kind of tell its got more of that tri lobe look? Oh, is that the one that the member said he emailed and axed if it was tripod style or whatever that other name was?
There's a couple newer guys posting on that Mud thread that must've joined in last 6-7 years, but I can tell they know their stuff. Which is invaluable to the community.
