@boogie3478 i need to take pics but my Gooty, which is arboreal, has dug under the substrate and web’d around the sides with substrate. I was wondering if she’s in pre-molt or why this behavior..

Many of the arboreal tarantulas like to burrow when they are smaller. Could be pre-molt or just could be common juvenile behavior.

No cross ventilation...and the enclosure is glass :anonymous:

Apparently it'll be about a year or a little more before I may have to rehouse. I've got a 10 gallon atm.

I did read about the soaking of substrate in a corner and I plan on doing that.

The burrowing, climbing up and falling from height, and the space requirement of 3-4 times its leg span...took it all to heart lol just didn't know about the cross ventilation

I want my L. Parahybana to be as happy as can be.

So, your L. Parahybana is known to be docile and peaceful T, not known to be aggressive.

Plans on handling in the future? :D

    One step at a time!

I'll keep an eye out for a molt in the time to come and handle that first.

Lol mine is kind of defensive ... not aggressive, but defensive enough to make me not want to try to hold her.

IF you want to try to handle in the future make sure she is well fed.

    Reeally?

Mine shot hairs during the move to the new enclosure, but even the girl that helped me out told me that'd happen since it would be cooped up for awhile during my drive.

Yesterday when I was checking the substrate and moisture, cleaning/refilling the dish, and looking everywhere for the cricket, my T just chilled out.

I know my local pet store carries tons of crickets but I want to get some meal worms too.

I read about keeping them in the fridge for long term storage so they don't venture to the next stage in life.

If you just buy one of the small meal worm containers you won't have to worry about feeding them or having them turn into beetles. One warning about mealworms is that it's best to drop them right in front of the tarantula so they are more likely to grab it quickly. If they aren't grabbed as soon as they are dropped the mealworms will burrow quickly into the substrate ... and since your terrarium is pretty deep you won't get them back out until they are beetles unless you want to dig them up.

Thank you for that and yeah I've seen youtube videos and people talking about how quickly they burrow.

How they can come up as a beetle and at the worst possible time such as when a T is going through a molt.

I'll see if small container meal worms are found locally.

A PetsMart or Petco should have them in different sizes.

Yeah and ‘she’s’ being funny, I think in premolt, she’s digging a burrow even tho she’s arboreal. I’ll take some pics.

And the two Brazilian Black Ts.
