This might be a similar morning bounce/bear flag to yesterday's action..

Im using the same strategy as well. If they didnt cut dividends in 2008, i couldnt see them doing that now or in the near future. A big price drop in the stock helps bump thatvyeaild up by percentage anyway.

I tried to pick from Dividend Aristocrats when I created my portfolio. Big companies, 25+ years with dividend increases every year. If any of them have to cut (or even not raise) their dividend, I go back to the ammo comment. It would have to be bad.

And yes, you're getting nice yields if you start positions now!

I have been reading too much ZeroHedge- this market correction freaks me out. I am 24 and have been in the market for a few months so I don't have much experience with these things though

This is normal. I posted a while ago about 5% and 10% corrections. We were overdue.

I think this is all about pricing in bad earnings due to China shutting down. I think if earnings are bad, it's already priced in. It won't be another hit. If they're even ok or good, the market will shoot up. I think horrible earnings have been priced in this week, probably for the next few quarters.

all I know is. there is very little time to anticipate a ramp up.. so always be vigilant. It's the ramps down that have been a little easier to spot in my experience, especially when it comes to news such as this. The trade war thing was a whole other can of bananas. lol. You pretty much just had to sit through whatever the hell was going on.

Someone could look at the activity of this thread and determine what the market is doing. Hardly any posts as it melts up. Posts every few minutes in these corrections. Just something I observed.

I have read a lot about market psychology. People tend to get less pleasure from gains, than the get despair from losses. It's interesting to read about. It also explains panic selling. You just have to realize it and buck the trend.

Like many people your age you have pretty much only experienced the upside to an economic cycle. The way down is usually fast and painful leaving people wondering WTF just happened

The market takes the stairs up, and the elevator down. But, having said that, about a 10% average annual return.

Young in the stock game, but I did use this downfall as a way to grab more sphd on sale. Wishing I could deposit more than 1k in Robinhood, but maybe it’s a good thing I can’t, unless I get the gold feature. Trying to not act on emotion, might have to delete the app from my phone. Or at least turn off push notifications.

I remember 2008 pretty vividly just because my mom is a single mom and worked her whole life as a real estate broker. I was 13. She didn't make a dollar for two years when the market got hit and had to support me and my younger sister. Since then I have always been pretty conservative with my money and always saved more than most my age. I'm not too worried about my losses since I am investing long term and only put a bit of my savings in. More concerned about why the hell everyone is reacting like this over something that is supposed to be like the flu. Market correction was overdue and I think the virus was just the catalyst that sent it over the edge, but I can tell there is a lot of panic over this virus outside of the market too and that concerns me

We see a lot of denial posts and it's not just on TW. People seem to think this will blow over in a few weeks. The other shoe has yet to drop and i'm guessing it will be HBSC or Deutsche Bank. The damage is done. Doom and gloom I know, but I like realistic floors after the trash has been thrown out.

Not denial, just willingness to accept returns of 10%, -30%, 25%, 42%, -30%........ random amounts like that, with a 10% annual average.

That's just what the market does. If someone can't handle it, maybe CDs would be better.

    That's all I'm saying.

Flip side of that there are a bunch of people overreacting, planning for the end of civilization as we know it etc...

With the huge run up based on free fed money, the bubble was about to burst at some point, if it wasn't this it would have been something else like Bern winning more states etc.
