2016-2019 Adding Apple Carplay & Anytime Camera(s)

I'm researching adding carplay and a anytime back-up & front camera capabilities to my 2019. Has anyone done both? I see a ton of either or posts and I've tried searching the forum and the interwebs but have come up empty.

Just trying to verify that there aren't any conflicts with running both and that it is physically possible to cram all the crap behind the head unit.

 

You need a new head unit for CarPlay that is compatible with CarPlay. Alpine and some Chinese brand I can’t remember look popular from what I have seen on here.

Anytimebackupcamera.com is the solution for cameras that I want to go with but the 2020s aren’t in stock.

 

There are aftermarket devices that allow you to add carplay to your existing head unit.

Neat, those are pricey though. Probably why people go new head unit.

 

They are pricey. I use the maintenance feature of the head unit though so I'd like to keep it if I can.

 

I'd highly recommend ditching the stock unit and going with a Pioneer Avic-W8500NEX with Maestro RR and an aftermarket front camera (seen in this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-camera-questions.652775/page-2#post-22805710). I just installed this unit in my Wife's 2015 Highlander and the wireless Carplay alone was well worth it. Maestro RR retains the factory settings that are accessed through the stock deck. This deck allows for a front camera hookup. Your stock camera integrates with the unit so no need to replace anything there. You will lose the compass and turn-by-turn navigation in your gauge cluster display but that's it. The stock decks are absolutely horrible (I've only owned the non-carplay version in my 2017 and it's the worst). Anyways, that's my recommendation. This deck is heavily discounted right now. Just a few weeks ago it was selling for $1k. It's no in the $600's on Crutchfield. It's Pioneer's current flagship unit. Oh! And it has a secret setting on the deck that will override the parking break to access everything. Pretty sweet.

 

I might go that route. Just seeing if this is an option.

 

I was hanging on forever as I didn't want to lose the factory settings capabilities. Bought the ********* AVITY harness to override park brake, bought another harness to hook up a subwoofer, even installed an Apple TV so I could do some wireless screen mirroring. These were all bandaids just to keep the stock unit. After installing the system I mentioned above in my wife's Highlander, I'm sold. The Maestro RR was the big selling point in regards to retaining factory settings and steering wheel controls (you can even re-program the steering control buttons to repurpose them!) It's on my list of upgrades coming down the pipe soon. The wireless carplay is where it's at. If you're an Android user, you can do wireless mirrorcast or whatever it's called.
