265/70R16 Tire Assistance - 2007

I know there are many threads on tires but I could use more input.. I dont have any unique things on my 07 4wd and I drive 90% on highway.. On my wife's SUV I put Kuhmo road ventures and they are awesome (would have never tried them but Goodyear and Pirelli sucked on her truck)
1. Anyone use Kuhmo on thier Tacoma
2. I saw the Mich LTXMS2 ranked really high on Tirerack
3. I've seen a lot of discussion on the ATRevo2's...

Those appear to be the 3 I have narrowed it down but open to other suggestions.. I need something smooth, wears well and stable.. living in the northeast, can handle snow when needed.

PS. The Rugged Trails that come stock, SUCK

The Michelins are great! The only draw back is the price. Out of the 3 you listed, I'd go with them for the type of driving you described. I had a bad experience with Kumho tires so tend to shy away from them. After hearing a lot of good things about them, it sounds like I just had a bad set. Are you open to other options or have you narrowed it down to just those 3?

 

I am definitely open.. just started to look around (I'm at 41K with my rugged trails), and yeah the Mich are pricey...

PS. for some a quick fun story on the Kuhmo's, my wife has an LR3 (heavy truck), at 15K miles, had to replace the stock Goodyears, went wiht the suggested Pirelli's, about 15k miles later, they were worn (and 1 blew).. thats when I went with the Kuhmo.. I now have 40K miles on the Kuhmo's and they are barely worn and made the whole ride of the truck so much better.. I am a believer after not having a clue who kuhmo was - But they are not that popular so hard to come by

 

+1 for Michelin LTX as a quiet, durable, high mileage, long wearing tire.

 

Glad to hear they're working out. My girlfriend had a set on her car and when they went, they warped really really bad and one finally blew out fairly catastrophically. It wasn't like she ran them longer than she should have, they weren't even close to the wear bars when it happened. Just be weary and keep your eye on them, it happened with 45,000 miles on her car.

I lean towards Cooper Tires. They're fairly inexpensive and I've had great luck with them. I'm currently running Discovery ATRs but from what you're looking for, they might be too aggressive for your liking. They make a little noise on the road but not terrible. Their Discovery M+S or their Discovery HT tires are excellent. I've had the HTs on my past 2 trucks and ran well over 60,000 miles on them. They perform well in the snow and are very well mannered on pavement. Another tire I looked at real hard was the Yokohama Geolander HTR or ATR depending on how aggressive of a tire you want. I've heard great things about them and they get good reviews.

Check this out www.mavistire.com. I used to go there when I lived in Albany but their website shows a lot of tires by size, load range, etc along with pricing and customer reviews. Even if you don't plan on buying there it's a good tool to use when shopping around.

just put
Michelin LTX M/S2 on my 2008 double cab 4x4 and love them.
have 950 miles on them so far.
what i did was pitted places against each other til i found best price.
final price out the door with a front end alignment was 795.00 PLUS a 70 dollar mail in gift card rebate.
so final prive was 725.00.
do your homework and price.
i went with colony tire for mine.

I am definitely not a fan of michelin's. They are cost prohibitive and french. George Patton once said "I would rather have a German army in front of me than a French army behind me."

I like the Cooper's too. I was looking at the ATR's in that same size. They have great wet traction and my Yokohama's are terrible in the rain.
