Well just ordered the jba standard high caster UCAs. Now to wait to install next weekend or earlier if they arrive in time then alignment. Hopefully that’ll eliminate any more need for cutting and trimming because there’s no more room to move plastic anymore :)

Have them set em as close to +4° per side as they can. Should be easy for em.

Mega squirt does the rev limiter on the fuel side and so it'll run lean on like turbo and supercharged cars hence melting pistons Also with the haltech you have much more control over other parameters with different sensors and what not like that

They use fuel, spark control and timing now and you can map it out so it don't run lean.
Not that I will be using the rev limiter, lol

Anyone here have knowledge of swapping gears in our Tacoma’s? For the most part 6th gear is now obsolete in my truck :). UCAs ordered so that’s next change but definitely gotta swap gears out.

My son tuned this engine a few weeks ago on Megasquirt

Its crazy all the control it gives you. After I get my little 4 cylinder running on my new setup I'm going to add a supercharger to it.

I changed my 3rd member and front diff out. So has Jeff, Brian, and Scotty. I just bought 5.29 preloaded 3rd member and front diff from @ECGS and then sent mine back to them after i swapped them around.

What made you go with the 5.29 rather than 4.88/4.56/4.30?

Cool. I want to get one for my wife, forward and rear facing, but I'm not sure how I'd mount the rear because she drives a 4runner and the rear window rolls down.

This chart shows how to pick gears, yellow for fuel, red for performance and green for both.
But you need to consider weight too so if you have a lot of weight you may need bigger gears.

Yeah 5.29 way overkill for a 33” tire :). Too bad someone with a manual trans didn’t want to swap gears. That chart shows 4.30 would be great.

I watched a YouTube vid a while back on gears where the guy showed the mathematical calculations to determine gear size and basically said same thing you did about accounting for weight as well and if in doubt go up to next set of gears.

Its my opinion and lots of others that the 3rd gens should of come from the factory with 4.88. On a 100% stock truck 4.88 is perfect. Folks like me and you that add 33's+ heavy steel bumpers and camping gear and or pull trailers, we need extra help. So 5.29s are perfect. I can tell you that untuned with 5.29's my truck is still slightly annoying to drive. So i would reccomend to anyone with bigger tires or any kinds of mods that add any kinda of weight dont wast your time or money on anything less than 5.29's.

I have 4.30 and it is a good balance for me on and offroad.

By the chart it does show 5.29 as an overkill but that is at stock weights. If I regear I will be going 5.29 just because of the power it gives at low speeds.

This chart doesnt take our 2 overdrives into account either. It may be accuate for jeeps, 1st gens and 2nd gen tacomas but not ours.

My truck ran fine and did everything perfect with OVTune with all stock hardware. Reason I was thinking 4.30 or 4.56. However 4.56 isn’t available through ecgs. 4.88 would be my lean to choice as I don’t want to be at 2600 rpm down the highway just lower enough gears to be able to use 6th at highway speeds like before with slight bump in rpm.
