I decided to spend some time today cleaning and relubing the slides on mine. Same vintage, but your toolbox is in much better shape.



I'm going in a bit in the opposite direction though. 2 of the 3 side boxes were a recent Craigslist find. I just peeled all the stickers off them.


They might make a cool sign for someone if stuck on red metal and hung on the wall.

 

That's because this is a lube bitch truck.

People only have their machines serviced at night so there is no down time so you only get to work at night. You have no service crane all your allowed to do is change oil and filters. You can't even do valve sets on Deere loaders. How do you pull off all of the body panels and exhaust parts with out a crane. Why would the company spec out a air compressor for a 3/4" gun when your only pulling off belly pans that are flimsy tin plate when a 1/2" gun is pushing it for belly pans ?

Why are you mad, bro? That post was from 2014. I was proud to have done well in trade school. It doubled my income over what I was making prior. Before I even finished I had multiple job offers. I chose the Deere/Hitachi dealership that put me in a brand new lube truck. I’m still with that same company, though now I’m a shop technician.

That was an excellent entry level position. I did lots of lube jobs but contrary to your assumptions, I also did any job that didn’t require a welder or crane. When I started in early 2012, Interim Tier 4 equipment was new so most fleets were still Tier 3 or older. Valve adjustments, injection pumps, injectors, EGR coolers, turbos, all that stuff was easier to access. It was the olden days, before people ate Tide Pods and listened to Cardi B.

I mounted two of the side boxes on the wall to hold various stuff. Still a mess, but it's getting better.

 

These old hospital crash carts work surprisingly good. Drawers slide real smooth and are full extension and are deeper than a standard toolbox. Drawer heights work good with what we need to do our job. Wheels roll nice and smooth!

 

I debadged mine. Thinking about putting on a Snap On badge just to piss off the die hards.

 

Ahhh..aviation.
I know every tool in its place and the FAA doe to want a socket to end up in the turbine...., but!!!!!

That’s not a bad idea.. the chrome drawer trim just pulls off btw if your not a chrome fan. I removed mine and sprayed them black to match the snap on box lol

Well I wanted my Taco in cement grey but decided against it, so I got my toolbox in one instead. So much more room than my old double bank, and at 30X72 I don't really see myself outgrowing it like I have the past two tool boxes.

 

Sometimes I wish I had went with a 72.. I have a 56 inch snap on bry bar that has to lay on top of my 55 inch box, luckily my co workers are pretty trust worthy and it hasn’t disappeared yet.

 

I just picked up a 54 x 22" 8 drawer Craftsman to mount my lathe on. Lowes had it on clearance for $550. That's less than the 56: HF on sale.

 

That was fun. I moved the 350 Lb lathe with just 2 x 4s and a 6 foot prybar.

I had to lift the lathe first to get the bottom tray out. I used the tray to perfectly center it on top of the toolbox and pre-drill the mounting holes for the lathe.

Next I slid the lathe from the old mount to the toolbox on 2x4s with a little help from my wife. I slid the bottom tray in place and spent a while aligning everything before dropping it in place and bolting it to the toolbox.



The other toolboxes. Soon they will swap places with the lathe.

 

looking great! i love those new craftsman boxes . alot of people give them heat but i think they are really well made boxes and they sure are PRETTY! How are you liking it thus far ?
here's my craftsman lot all complete with Tacoma and TRD badging lol don't worry everyt sticker and decal you see is on magnetic backing so fully removable!. I know I know this is basically in the kitchen galley section of my apartment lower level b/c I don't have a garage but i'll be ready for the next move haha.
my 42" craftsman lower box is the 2000 series and then I went with the Edge series on my 26" top and bottom stack b/c I loved the midnight blue color (Diehard Dallas Cowboys fan). my homemade mobile workbench is on the end and I've since mounted a vice to it with threaded inserts and Knobs so I can remove it as needed to clear workspace.

 

So far so good. I like the deep drawers. I have a lot of accessories and tooling for the mill and the lathe. Some are pretty big and the box holds them all with a little more room to spare.

 

@robssol and @Graham5david I work in a hospital and LOVE those carts. would give anything to know when they're trying to get rid of them. the Harlotts, armstrongs, and vidmars of the world lol. anesthesia cart and toolbox porn!
