    Hi all,

As some of you know, my 2015 DCLB BR was recently in an accident.

Now I'm fighting with the insurance company over the value of it.

My question to you all is how much did the TRD Sport option cost when the truck was new in 2015? I read somewhere it cost about $3000 in 2008. If anyone has any information, please share.

If anyone's curious, they currently have her valued at $25,156. But I feel that's too low because she has 2018 TRD Off-road wheels, a fully optioned 2018 Leer 180 cap, and the TRD Sport package, in addition to being a DCLB and in Barcelona Red. Also she only has 50k miles and is clean as a whistle, with what was a nicely fluid-filmed frame and spotless seats.

There are many trucks out there to show the insurance company but I was able to find an exact replica in OR (warning: this picture is hard to look at :) ): https://www.copart.com/lot/26571220 Notice the retail value of $28,800.

Really trying to not let them total this beauty. She's been at the bodyshop for 2 weeks now and I miss her :(

Best, and thanks for your help,

    Kim Bolduc

I'm willing to bet that the reason your insurance company isn't willing to pay for the TRD Sport package is that a quick VIN# check will pop the vehicle up as a "Base." I have a 2014 TRD Sport and that's what always happens to mine. Show them / prove to them that it has the options shown in the above post and you should be good to go.

yup. Most of them come up at “prerunner” but don’t provide specific details.
Just my 2 cents, I don’t actually think you’re getting a bad deal here. But that’s just me.

Hey girlie, sorry to hear about your truck :( My buddy just got rear-ended in his barcelona '13 DCLB TRD. Those are popular crash test trucks I guess..

I'm selling my 2015 DCLB TRD Sport right now (trying to anyways..) and the NADA on mine certified with 42,800 miles is $29,200. If yours isn't certified it still books for $27,900 depending on mileage. KellyBlueBook values on the truck are $28,300-28,800 as well. That factors in my roof, rims, tires, certification, mileage, and bed racks. Your cap would change the figures a tad but prob not much.

The TRD Sport package was upwards of a few thousand clams, like you're suspecting. The KBB bs on my autotrader ad says my truck is only worth $23-26k, because it doesn't show the TRD Package or certification and they wont fix it because i'm "not a dealer".. thanks guys.

You have to click certain buttons to get the right values to pop up and it sounds like your insurance company isn't doing it properly or just hoping you relent and say "okay" like they typically do. They're always going to try to lowball you, fight the man.

I'll cross my fingers for ya, dealing with insurance companies sucks!

Hi, I’m new and have been lurking for a couple months (I brought home a new to me Taco yesterday). This one has been on my radar, don’t know if it helps but very similarly optioned to yours.

Here's a quick NADA search for your config/miles/cap/package ( i assume your bed has a liner, if not subtract $50).
They're doing clean retail pricing on the base model it seems. I sold Ducatis for years, same old bs. They'd classify the 1098R with the 1098S even though there was a $20k difference in the two bikes.

    I didn’t end up getting the red ‘17, I found a lightly used ‘19.

I’m a little confused, I thought the 3.5L was the norm?

3rd gen has the 3.5L. OP had a '15 (2nd gen) which had the 4.0L.

Unfortunately the insurance company will not pay for anything that is not stock unless you included it in the options you wanted insured on the truck. Then of course their job is to pay you as little as they can for the vehicle.
If you have one of the cheap ass ones like Geico you get even less.

Are you claiming on your insurance or on the persons who hit you?

Claiming on my insurance because the person who hit me doesn't have a license, registration, or insurance.... But it was their fault.

They are actually including all my upgrades in the value, but the issue is they couldn't find a TRD sport to compare to among their twelve comparables. They're all base models. Also they only found 3 long beds (out of the 12 comparables). So my concern is that they aren't addressing how much value the TRD sport package adds because my truck is so unique.

But yeah, they're trying to pay me as little as possible. Not Geico, I have Hanover but it's the same story.

We went through the same thing a few years back. Got rear ended and totaled my Sienna, no license no insurance.
I've got a good insurance company and still had to do the work to get the money it was worth.
Go find something comparable yourself and send it to them. Find a few as close to you as possible.
    Good luck.

Never gonna get certified retail from the insurance company. But yes probably owe him a bit more.

Window stickers are specific to the vehicle by VIN. You might find something "generic" or do a google search. There are companies that can provide you with your window sticker for a fee, just supply your VIN.

Do you know of any? I haven't been able to find any by searching that are actually legitimate.

Yeah, I know I probably won't get retail value. But I only need a little bit more, on the order of a hundreds of dollars (maybe up to a grand) for my insurance company to comfortably not total it.

The truck value aside, it's got 2018 TRD Off Road wheels on it, which retail for like $477 a pop (I didn't pay that). I think that's 2k right there my insurance company isn't considering. I've also got the original wheels, which technically gives the truck a second set.

I’m not sure if this is true, but I was told a person can buy back their totaled car from an insurance company very cheap. Could you take the $ (plus they pay you what taxes on it will be) and have it repaired for less than the payout?

In this case, my main concern is that buying it back gives the truck a salvage title. This immediately drops the truck by probably 30% of it's value. While I did plan on keeping it forever, that's a huge hit. In addition, most insurance companies won't insure a salvaged vehicle, or will charge highly for it. I know some that do insure them, but I'm worried about finding a good company who wouldn't charge me through the nose for it.

There's also other factors, including the fact that my insurance company broke the law 3x earlier this week. They engaged in clear steering: their appraiser literally told me to take my truck out of my body shop and go to their preferred shop. So on principle I'm fighting back as hard as I can to make them do their job legally and do it right.
