Agree, totally sketchy. He probably had the pods in his pocket and was looking to get inside. So much of that crap these days. Don't open the door for anyone you don't know. Don't want to answer? No problem, just make enough noise so they know you are home. They'll go away. Not sure about now but for a time their was a group operating here in the Bay Area. They would come up to the door, knock - someone opens and they brandish a firearm and force their way in at gunpoint. Always be careful.

Actually, you can find your AirPods case using "Find my iPhone". Regardless, it doesn't take a lot to make it look like the case is somewhere it isn't.
You can call me paranoid but when you answer the door to someone making a claim like that, they are trying to get something from you or to get into your house. Tell them to move along and call the cops. Worst case is they come and AirPod Boy now know someone is watching.

I know it's cool to be helpful and all but you should be hella skeptical of claims like this. And never answer questions-never. Fuck him, you don't have his shit.

Should have told him to call the cops and you’re willing to wait with him until they show up.

    Guaranteed they split.

Or while they’re standing there offer to call the cops for him! Then do and don’t let him leave “because you’re worried his airpods have been stolen and he needs help”.

Finally brought my heep home and first thing out of my wife’s mouth “I don’t like it. You need to sell it”

Also “you can’t park that in front of our house”. Fun times.

    Nice.

Yeah, I think 90% of the reason she’s so adverse to my Jeep is the color... doesn’t bother me.

just need to keep reminding myself I sold the best vehicle I’ve ever owned so I can fit all three kids in my wheeler.

I 100% think this was a scam, and am glad you were there along with your wife. I would probably report this to the police in case others receive the same person at their door.
First, the AirPods, as verified on the Apple support site, ping to their last known location where they were in contact with the Bluetooth device they were previously paired with. There is no way that this could have accidentally happened. The AirPods don't ping unless they are outside the case (they are off when in the case and closed).
If someone had them in your house and was using them, then maybe it'd be possible. But they do not have GPS so they would never have been able to track them to your home. They also have to be connected to the same Apple ID, so not sure how they were activated at your house under the proper Apple ID, but on a device at your house.
Maybe I do not understand everything fully. Someone please chime in if I am incorrect. I just do not think that what they said was possible. Therefore, I think it was a scam or someone casing your house.
Also, here's a Reddit link showing someone else with the same claim.
I will post more if I find more.
