It's super easy! No drilling or cutting, only took about 30 minutes, and cost ~$25

So I was planning to basically camp where we’re headed tomorrow but apparently there’s no dispersed camping allowed up past Post Canyon? Either ways it’s late anyway but I’m pissed that I’m not staring into a fire right now. Maybe they were wrong, whose to say...I’ll get the skinny tomorrow and maybe even find a few sites for next time so I don’t have to find them at night. Picked up and installed a GMRS radio (between grabbing wood, propane, packing the kitchen, cooler, cleaning the damn stove, buying LOADS of candy, etc.). What channel do you plan on using?

Seeing this late and being diagnosed with Bells Palsy on Wednesday kind of messed up my weekend. The meds are doing their thing and I am already getting some feeling back in the left side of my face, but my eye is still messed so kinda a bummer to drive. But hopefully I will have myself fixed up by the time the next one comes around.

    Bummer man. Another time.

Nice easy kit. Was planning on doing this sometime. This makes it easy. Thanks.

Nice on the radio! Channel 20 unless it's full.

Dispersed camping is typically allowed in most areas of a national forest. More info here:

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/fishlake/recreation/?cid=stelprdb5121831

I'm sure you know this, but don't forget your shovel. You will need to dig a toilet.

Here is a map of Mt Hood national forest.

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_MEDIA/stelprdb5192432.jpg

Looks to me the entire OHV area is included in that. Here is a link to Mt Hood national forest specific info. (Though it's not that helpful in this case.)

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/mthood/recreation/camping-cabins/?recid=52770&actid=34

I believe legally you should be good to go. I know there are sites all over where others have done so, legally or not.

My friends and I use walkie talkies on ch13 privacy code 0. Never anyone on it, one good thing about people and their silly superstitions lol. We're planning a crazy route to the 4x4 location since one of my friends apparently knows the area since he does motocross, but it's been a while and those 4x4 trails use to not be there so that's new to him. We're planning to just fuck around and explore some while we make our way down to the 4x4 trails, so we might be a little later than 11.

Also, there's a chance there could be snow so be ready.

Grazie for the forest info. I'm thought Hood River RD has some restrictions on where they allow dispersed camping on their part of the Mt Hood NF, I could be and probably am mistaken. Could be like areas around Tahoe/Sedona/Flagstaff and Moab (just to give some love to the BLM) where dispersed camping is restricted to specific chunks despite it all being NF. Then there’s SW Colorado where you can basically do anything you want... I worked for the USFS in various roles and as an outdoor educator/climbing guide for about a decade (blah blah blah) and take my LNT/Tread Lightly seriously! Happy to see it’s a shared sentiment!

HAPPIER to get out! See everyone at 11, I’ll be the guy in the slammed civic.

I'm certain we'll run into you all. But could be a blessing being in smaller groups depending on the state of the trails haha. Hope to see you guys though!
