... youre making a bigger deal out of it than it is, and honestly if you paid the mechanic 40 bucks to change the shocks the quicker they get that done the quicker they can move onto that 200 dollar water pump

They wont remember putting on your shocks and they probably didnt care about one being 3/4 of an inch longer

Swapping the shocks over is literally a 5 minute job, including grabbing the ratchet and correctly sized socket.

You can do this on your back without having to lift the truck or anything.

3/8" drive if we want to get specific; 1/4" is too small to get the right leverage and 1/2" drive is overkill.

6 wall socket for that 14mm.

I think it comes down to just how you use your truck.

If your out there crashing over rocks where your getting lots of flex lots of movement in the shocks I can see a inch making a difference .

How I use the Truck if I ever got the shocks on correct if the ones I bought were different was pure chance .

Though I do wonder if it might have something to do with the broken upper shock mounts ?? I fix all to often that I keep new ones.

Well, while we are all on the "overthhinking" train.... While I realize the easy response could be "who knows why toyota does" this or that, why did they bother installing two different length shocks (still available to purchase) on an SR5, a truck that does not come off the showroom floor intended to be beat on? They cut corners & very well could have chosen to here. That's s'alot'a shocks = $$$$.
In the case of myself & @Wyoming09 what happens when instead of beating on the truck, you put it to work hauling wood or bricks? & while I did not have wood overflowing the bed, my guess is this could have an effect on 1. the drivers side shock getting taxed & 2. potentially the mounts 3. leaf springs? My drivers side, flat as a pancake.... sort of.... But way worser than the passenger.... Chicken or the egg.... Spring was going & affected shock? Shock was bottoming out under load & affected spring? All of this is just musing. Not my expert opinions. But I do know toyota has my truck's wimpy version of shocks available for purchase & they are l/r specific & 35.00 ish apiece. Not the typical stealer price when comparing to other brands.

Myself I never broke any The vehicles just seem to appear this word of mouth advertisement is brutal

It just might have something to do with our lovely climate and the use of liquid brine.

Overloading will not damage the suspension.
    Per say. BUT
Hitting bumps and pot holes while overloaded and riding on leaf bump stops takes a toll on the leafs, hangers and bushings.

The broken mounts you are referring to are ones you fix at work, on other peoples’ trucks, yes?

Yes Kristi that is correct but it is not work!!

It is just for fun Work would be billed far to expensive for most to pay on fixing aged Toyota Vehicles
