Yep I have 5.29 as well and it’s perfect for the 4bager! Had mileage sucks but can still go up 20 degree inclines at about 75 haha with my truck loaded up! This weekend was a test of it for sure and I honestly was surprised at how it still would push all the weight without having to downshift all the way!

 

That overdrive gear rocks on the 3rd gens!

I’m running at 2K RPMs on the money doing 80.

 

I haven’t seen much of 6th gear since changes. Reason for new gears soon. Hopefully it’s an easy install or if someone with experience wouldn’t mind lending some guidance

 

@tweakit88 and @Built2Ride are the only 2 folks I know with a 3rd gen regear. I’m sure they will steer you in the right direction. Better to always do it right the first time!

 

Also gotta decide if the front locker is worth the extra change.

 

You run a much better chance of snapping front axles with a locker. Your rear locker should be sufficient to do some hard wheeling.

 

Price is definitely taking me out of front locker. Even if it was very useful I wouldn’t use it enough to make the purchase worthwhile. Now just gotta wait til tomorrow so I can call ecgs. Too bad they didn’t offer a discount

The best and easiest way is to buy the diffs with the gears you want. Have ECGS ship them to you, swap them out and return the cores. If you can do without your truck a couple, three weeks, it involves less money on the core if you take yours out, send them to ECGS they will send you some back, install them and your done.

You will need new seals, RTV and gear oil.

I have changed them out or help change them out on 1st, 2nd and 3rd gens. If you need help I will help if you want me too. We might even be able to talk a few others into helping.

 

I’ll pay the core charge that’s not an issue. Couldn’t stand not having truck for few weeks or even a month.

 

I will be going to 5.29 as well and really want to get a crawl box at the same time

 

Also thanks for offering to help. Be glad to take anyone up on it that has the experience that’s for sure. Gotta call tomorrow though to see what all I need to add to cart because some of their options I don’t know which one to select.
