You're interested in doing what I do or you're interested in my cars?

I work for the Department of Defense. I do quality/acquisition and engineering support on weapons systems being built by contractors like Lockheed, Raytheon, and others for the military. Mainly testing and inspecting Naval weapons, systems, and explosives to make sure they work as ordered, then I buy them on behalf of the government.

Most recently I've been doing program support on developing new Ohio class submarine transducers for the trident missiles and designing/building a new upgraded Mk 48 torpedo.

Lots of Top Secret work and being prior military helps a lot with getting in.

I also have no kids, a gf who makes basically what I do, and I live in a very cheap area, which is why I have cars lol

Can’t complain there lol. Did you compete strongman stuff before being the weight you are now or did you dive into it recently and have always been in the open class?

Nope I started heavyweight and was 281lb first comp. I started competing last year in July which was a novice comp, won't that then had to go open.

I was gonna ask ya on a serious advice note, how do you pick what weight class to compete in? Like I’m 197 now. The first comp is open all the way up to 220 in my weight class. But the brute strength one is 200 or 231. That one isn’t until august but it’s like do you try to get as big as you can and shoot for the high weight classes or try to hang around where your body kinda naturally stays?

Well for one that Brute strength is through Strongman Corp which has different (better) weight classes.

It's really up to you though. I am naturally large so being big doesn't bother me. Not competing at all i was still walking around at 272lbs so unless I cut wayyyyyyy down to 231lbs I'm always HW.

At your size the 231 class will be the best bet if you can get that big and not be super fat. The guys in that class are cut and really fast though, but if you can't compete with them then cut below and try to stay LW.

Yea I’m excited to compete in that one. Training with stones will be fun. Just hard trying to set a goal weight class. You were 231? Jesus you had to be a twig at that height

I think the biggest thing to consider for weight classes would be how competitive you want to be. The heavier the weight class, the stronger the competitors. Gain weight to move weights, right? But also something to consider is how much you care about “making weight”. I know a ton of guys that sit 10lbs under max weight or 10lbs over minimum weight because they don’t want to worry about having to cut or manage weight on meet day so they just focus on training and show up at whatever body weight...

For me, I want to be competitive. Which is why if I do another comp, it will be at least 1 class down, and possibly 2 depending on how my strength continues to fair while I lean out more.

If you want to be competitive, why not go up a weight class with people who lift more and will push you to get some gains ? Why drop down where you know you have a good shot in? Not asking to be rude or a dick but it’s that question in all of our heads. Like I could drop back to 185 and try to put on some lean mass and be a decent competitor in 200 class. Or I keep eating a ton for the next 6 months and see how big and strong I can get for the 231 that I realistically probably would get killed in.

I guess gaining weight to get big and then cutting down to be big and lean isn’t a thing?
