Go with the cheapest option, save $ for some other mods. IMO

If you're staying within the factory travel window (e.g. not going with extended travel coil overs) and not using larger than stock diameter shocks and coils then aftermarket UCAs and uniball pivots are not critical. The only benefit you might get is making it easier to align. Old Man Emu (OME), which is similar to the 5100s you're considering, is designed to work with stock UCAs.

Yeah I’m just looking to keep it mid travel and I don’t do hard off roading whatsoever. Idaho doesn’t have any cool places to do that LMAO! But maybe in the future I’d like to upgrade and get a nice ass suspension kit and maybe long travel it then. But for now I’m perfectly content with what I do off roading wise. Just been reading that UCA’s are a MUST when you exceed 3” of lift.

Bilstein 5100s are not mid travel, they are stock travel. Mid travel means you're using a "racing" shock (FOX, King, Icon, Radflo, etc) that has about an inch more travel than stock and will therefore exceed the travel limit of a stock UCA. Watch that Filthy Motorsport video, he talks about this.

Dope! 5100 are a solid choice ... I went with eibach for the same reason, i went with dk's moog style uca's because they are completely rebuildable so I'll have them the life of the truck and they allow for added down travel so if i upgrade my shocks I'll be all good

You also mention long travel, that's a completely different thing. If you plan to maybe go that way then definitely don't spend money on UCAs now. Long travel upper and lower arms are actually longer so you couldn't re-use a mid travel UCA anyway. Stick with the stock UCAs and maybe think about them if you find it can't be aligned (like the steering is really twitchy or you're wearing tires). That's about the only issue you might have with a 5100 lift.

To tack onto this, the ball joints in a jba can be found at damn near any auto parts store for $30 and is stupid easy to swap out if needed. So that’s a plus.

I’ll just see what the shop says about how much room I have to play with. It’s a 3inch lift, and I preferably want to run 285/75/17s so we’ll see if they say if I need UCA’s for alignment purposes or not I guess

That went through my mind when I was considering how to go. I wanted a stock ball joint instead of a specialty SPC or Icon. Not that buying a spare set to stick on a shelf is a problem, but the principle. But at the time JBA was still dialing in their geometry so I decided on Camburg. If I was buying now I'd probably go JBA.

If he wants 285/75/17's he will most likely need a regear also now we are really talking money. But, to each their own

2.7 yes but I have no idea what he has. I really like the tire size but not the total price tag for something, for me, that would be strctly a vanity item. I need to find me a set of the 2.7 diffs I could swap in with an lsd in the rear

@TanzTacoma I pretty much have the lift you noted in your other thread. 5100's with Eibach coils, I have the 2.5" lift 600lb coils instead of the 620# 1.6" lift coils. It will be dequate for most anything you most likely want to do I have been pleased so far and it is teamed up with camburg ball joint uca's. I don't care for the idea of moving the 5100's to the second notch as when i did that on my 4cyl truck, which had the coils listed in your link it rode rough.
    Yes that is correct

Okay cool, good to know! I’m just reading what everyone’s opinions are when it comes to UCA’s because i want to replace mine either when I lift it or a month or 2 after! Depending on how fast I can save. If mine is a 3.73 will the 285’s still run at a high RPM? I’m not too knowledgeable on this stuff that’s why I’m on here lol

A 285/75/17 s a 34x10.5 basically. It will raise your gear ratio because of the extra diameter lowering your rpms and robbing more power. The extra weight will also play into it but all this can be said of any tire over a stock size the effects simply compound the larger you go. I may be wrong but with a bilstin lift as you linked I don't see any real bennifit from anything more than a ball joint uca. Your greatest bennifit will be in a better aignment opportunity and clearance. The linked, delta jointed, or whatever you want to call them will help you if you went to a mid travel setup. You have recieved some good info in here from some good folks that know what they are telling you. All these uca's mentioned are of comparible quality with their own little independant differences. As @EatSleepTacos told you about the JBA's less cost and ease of pars availabillity and maintenance. Camburg ball joint ucas are the same way. @jeff b can led you in the right direction as well as many of the others. Tis is a confusing and daunting task to try and learn which we have all, mostly gone through. These guys are helping you through their experience.

For 3" lift, check out the suspension option @shouldveboughtajeep is running here with pictures here (Tuff Country UCA's for $300). He also goes into here, and at some point does a :notsure:
