Ive had a few memorable encounters with danger noodles on bike trails. Great way to test the brakes or your ability to bail haha.

They're a species that'll make you look at them differently; gives them personality I say.

Look up videos and you'll see lol

One of my dads mtb stories involved him stopping for a drink. Went to unclip and put his foot down and almost stepped on an Eastern Diamondback casually crossing the trail.

Ive only encountered a few black/king snakes. Worst animal Ive encountered while riding was a fox.

@Kwikvette leopard geckos are cool but very common. If you like those check out fat-tailed geckos, not as common and basically same care but humid.

If you dont know crested check them out. They are arboreal and can jump hand to hand. They are very active in hand compared to leopards or fat-tails. Their way cooler in my opinion if you have to choose 1.

I remember when I was still living in the barracks (stationed in Camp Pendleton), I was doing laundry late at night.

You had to walk across the parking lot to the laundry room behind the PX.

Anyway, I stepped out only to hear a rattler...no shit a few feet from me a western diamondback coiled up right there along the pathway.

It was southern CA so there I was in board shorts and flip flops. I went NOPE and did a big circle around it and left right away lol

I think the crested gecko is one I've seen in youtube videos; very active little guys and something I'd definitely want to have.

I've seen leopard geckos in stores and they just kind of hang out.

    Damn.

Just goes to show how quickly something could happen that'll change your life.

What happened with the fox encounter?

That should be ok. Just watch the abdomen and don't let it get too bloated.

It's been years since I looked at the statistics, but a large majority of bites are males 20-40 that usually were drinking and picked them up. Next is people stepping on them or placing hands somewhere without lines of sight. Then mountain bikers. In the years I did snake removal, only one client got bit before I showed up. She stepped on it in flip flops on her front yard, at night, no lights, and it was a young of the year so couldn't rattle.

There pretty good for a "pet" with your requirements, versus animals you shouldn't hold. That's my advice if were talking 10-30 gallonish.

Well it was dusk which is the best time to have to see foxes/skunks etc cause it generally means they're not rabid. Seeing one in broad daylight would mean beat feet and gtfo.

But I was on my first night ride, alone as usual. Trail was one way, and when I went to turn around I get a few hundred yards in and see it standing in the trail. It wouldnt move, we just stared at each other. I turned around and rode a bit further thinking it would go about its business. Well the little bastard decided to follow me from a distance. Thankfully a neighboring dog started barking and it walked off the trail. Just as I passed by, my chain dropped and I ran like hell with the bike until I got far enough to put the chain back on.

Needless to say I havent been crazy about riding at night anymore. Sucks cause I got a super nice headlight for Christmas.

Once, I was laying down on the couch with my hand on the ground. Something tickled me so my dumb ass just moved my hand. I put it back down and something tickled me again, I looked down and saw something move under the couch. I jumped a few feet in the air and then threw the couch forward. There was a centipede about 10-12 in long under there. I swept it outside and began smashing it with a shovel. It still gives me chills to this day.
