    Really? Drat.

More so saying that those are some of the best cw operators in the world and somehow you crank out more per hr in a truck, for 20hrs straight

Off topic anyways. Again. Just glad you know nothing about the guy or my truck, but you've got an opinion. Cheers boomer.

He's just claiming a guy he doesn't know can't operate, that my rig is wrong without knowing how it's set up, and that he has somehow make more cw contacts from his truck, sitting in it for 20hrs straight, than the top 10 people in the world who do it competitively can.

    Think that about covers it?

Where I got lost was the "anger" towards the FJ, which I thought was a pretty sweet rig.....

Basically I guess - don't hate on me lol. Between work, learning fabrication for the suspension in my truck, and recently getting married I haven't had much time to do much research. However my friend who has basically the 2wd version of what I'm building has an Icom IC-V8000 and has it in his dash. He told me to look for a used one and one just sold for $200 on ebay so I figured I'd ask for other options. I could mount a cooling fan in the dash, but expedition portal had a couple posts about guys installing them in the dash with no issues that they experienced.

Ive had my Yaesu FT-2800M installed in my dash for nearly ten years now, and never had a problem with it over heating. I know they are two different radios but still..

I've wanted an FJ for awhile now. They just can't be had around here for less than $10k with an insane amount of miles or typical NE rust.

They're just not economical to build either. Haha. But better to build it once than to buy a jeep and chase issues til the end of time. Haha

Ok. I’m just late to the party...ham is the way to go of course with a license. I scrolled up and see your initial goals are straight forward with any rig or even a hand held with an external antenna. I prefer clean installed equipment. For me it feels better, I is less prone to getting beat up an looks good. Ping your local ham clubs. Someone had a decent rig they no longer need and will be likely to sell it at good value along with the advice on using/programming and mounting it.
