I did that whole scenario wrong. First I shouldn't have yelled at the guy when I was 50 feet away, I should have yelled at him after I bashed his ____ open. The second thing I did was actually right as I didn't look in the truck until after the standoff in the alley because if I had seen the damage before the alley I wouldn't have walked away - literally.

I have been thinking of something like this for my truck when i park for long periods say at the airport or in remote locations to go dirt bike riding.


I already have a dealer installed aftermarket KARR alarm, but would still like it to where the truck couldnt be started (fuel pump / ignition / starter doesnt work) hmmmm..

There are two basic types of kill switches that I personally have used. They both use at a minimum one relay. I personally prefer Bosch or Potter And Brumfield relays. There are normally open kill circuits and normally closed kill circuits. You want to use a normally closed circuit that has anything to do with killing the engine that way if it fails while you are driving your truck the truck won't die. If you're "killing" the starter or the clutch switch or the neutral safety switch you can safely use a normally open kill circuit.

There can be 2 different switches that can operate one kill switch circuit independently or in unison depending on what you want. In other words a cigarette lighter can be one kill switch and the seatbelts switch a second kill switch circuit or it can be wired up so the cigarette lighter and the seatbelts have to be plugged in in order to bypass one kill switch circuit. Or any combination thereof. Or 3 switches, etc etc etc.

I've also used unused factory fuse box circuits for an emergency bypass of a kill switch circuit. Plug in the fuse if the kill system ever fails. That avoids panic no start situations in the middle of nowhere and avoid breaking out tools and diagnosing etc etc etc.

 

My understanding is, no matter how tempting to do it, boobie traps are illegal. A criminal injured trying to steal from you can sue and win.

I've had 2 vehicles and a car stereo stolen. So now I put in a coded Clifford alarm in everything. The code must be entered everytime it's started and if the doors are opened and closed. First the alarm blows and the engine is slowed down, then the engine shuts off with the alarm and horn sounding. I sleep comfortably knowing it'll be there in the morning. I even leave the key in the ignition sometimes.

In my targa top supra, I had a dual zone sensor, inside and outside zones. It worked but adjusting it perfectly is nearly impossible.

Lojack, I've heard good and bad things about it, never had it myself.

I'm sure there are other brands that make a good car alarm. I'm fortunate to have a good installer. I tell him what I want, he gives me his recommendations, always good outcome.

 

Could the same be done to, perhaps, open a hidden compartment?

 

I paid $400 for a glorified kill switch by Ravelco. They claimed it's never been defeated, so I'm praying that I won't be the first.

Have to say, for the price, the ergonomic for their product is nonexistent.

 

I say let them have it and fuck it up or never let it resurface. I have a ‘14 that was totaled and they paid me $30k for. Probably 5-6k more than I could have sold it for.

 

Yep booby traps are illegal, it's ridiculous. I remember installing those Clifford key pads. Clifford was bought out by DEI, along with almost every single other competitor DEI used to have. Proximity sensors are impossible to setup perfectly because their range changes with humidity and with temperature. I've never heard of Lojack not working. Almost all car alarms today are made by DEI.

I had never heard of Ravelco so I looked it up. I've seen and installed other variations of a separate keyed system and they typically work well and are reliable. But they take it to a whole new level by incasing the wiring in a steel line and they use a military grade plug. It's interesting for sure.

 

Thats cool n all... but the hassle of finding a new vehicle, no thanks.

 

Didn’t have to find a new one. Bought it back for $9k and dried it out, has less than 40k miles and good as new.

 

I know about ash trays. But they dont put them in cars now. Thats all I was trying to say. Just outdated way of doing it.

 

This and build a stun gun into the seat cushion for faster resets.

Mine came with an immobilizer system from the factory- a six speed transmission.

I installed a kill switch on my old Tacoma, just spliced a simple Radio Shack (remember them?) on/off switch into the fuel pump wiring so I could kill the power to it. We used to pull the rotor on older vehicle when leaving them at trail heads or river access points. I've pulled the pump relay when leaving the current Tacoma for a couple of days but obviously that's not convenient for everyday use. I keep meaning to install a kill switch on it, just haven't ever gotten around to it.

 

Pulling the rotor - that's fucking smart. Takes a moment with a 10mm nut driver and you can zip tie the darn thing and a spare to your pack.

I still drive by several Radio Shack locations and get a somber void within, yearning for the days of the HTX-10 and every scanner known to man.
