Tacoma is too big.

That’s awesome. Back when everything was made of steel. I didn’t realize our beds were made of composite. I thought it was a cover over the steel.

 

For me the Taco was a good size jump from my Jeep TJ but I got used to it fast. I still understand the OP though. I pass by some street parking spots that I wouldn't have thought twice with my jeep but now I have to.

 

I honestly understand your argument. But as someone that works in construction, I kinda just assume that most people dont have another vehicle to drive when they arent working. NOW, full size pick ups that dont have 4 wheel drive I do judge.

 

Why? 2wd pickups pretty much always have a higher tow rating than 4wd. The best hauler is a reg cab 2wd longbed

 

Dude, for sure! I work heavy civil. Its definitely manageable. But my point was, as a work truck, the Taco always has to work a little harder to keep up. Hauling, bed loads and toolbox space is limited. At work, all my coworkers drive f250s, 2500s and chevys HDs. I feel like I'm representing the humble tacoma well by keeping up with the larger trucks.

 

For sure you're right. Until they get to the jobsite and it's all muddy.

 

It can’t compete as a full on work truck, unless your work is hauling sleeping bags and tents through mountain passes. I’m cool with that.

 

I'm not that Talented. That was blown up quite a bit as I was pretty far away . It's an iPhone 8. I was desperate, I had to grab that shot when I saw the bent frame. The guy actually drives that thing.

 

I don't have a whole lot of issues parking my access cab down town... Parallel parking is a breeze in this thing. I wouldn't have minded if Toyota kept these trucks the size of 1st gens though but I guess that's why I have a 99 Ranger on the side.

 

I get that but now we’re getting into the “sometimes it’s muddy on the jobsite that I might be on”. Oftentimes there is also something on site to pull them out with. We have 2 big tractors at the farm and a big CAT 966 we use when something gets stuck. I probably wouldn’t have 4wd if I didn’t live in the northeast.

 

Sounds like what you want is a Helix. They're the cousin to the Tacoma, but a little smaller. They are all over the Middle East and I'm sure other regions. I took a couple pics of one today in Qatar but I cant for the life of me figure out how to upload a photo using the browser. I really wish TW had an app, the mobile web interface blows chunks.

 

True. But embarrassing when it happens to you. You come to check on some work after a heavy rain as get stuck, only to remember your crew took off because it’s still muddy. Now you have to call around to see who is closest your your job site to tow you out. I’m a utility kind of guy. My truck is solely for work. BUT if I can get a little muddy along the way i definitely won’t complain.

 

Personally, I find the size of the Gen3s perfect. While I loved my Gen1 (TRD OR/SR5 Extracab), the extra room of the new truck makes it seem much more comfortably without going to a full size truck. My wife declared it as "perfect" based on her ability to nap comfortable during a short trip we took this weekend.

 

You keep saying that the Hilux is smaller. It absolutely is every bit as bulky as the 3rd gen Taco, if not more so. I've seen them side by side all over central America.

 

i guess im in the minority. i prefer the smaller trucks.

 

Ironically I had several mini trucks when I was growing up in the country. Now I have a 3rd gen taco, the largest automobile ive ever owned, living in the inner city. It has been a learning experience. Sometimes it’s fun and challenging and sometimes it’s a PITA. Overall I love the truck.
