My 2019 4runner was built in Japan (as with all 4runners), my 2020 Tacoma was built in Mexico. The quality is much better on the 4runner. But I don't think an american built Tacoma would be any better quality than one built in Mexico. Wish they built the Tacoma in Japan. All being said I have no issues with quality of my Tacoma so far.

My 2008 FJ was made in Japan. My 2017 Taco was made in Mexico.

Both were and have been far from flawless.

Do people really watch his videos? Besides the fact that he can only see things as black or white, his voice annoys the hell out of me.

This guy is a fucking idiot.

Mexican made Tacos sell for the same price as Texas made Tacos already, so bringing up the fact that Taco prices won't go down and it's a business decision is just common sense.

There have been numerous threads on the issue about Texican vs. Mexican born trucks and the quality difference between them that the argument that the quality will go down as a result of plant location is thoroughly debunked. Using a PT cruiser as an example of poor production quality due to location is a bad example. The Japanese themselves couldn't make a PT cruiser a good vehicle period.

    Working on it ...
Selling the Tacoma is a fairly sizable market for Toyota. I am fairly confident Toyota didn’t turn over the keys to the plant to the Mexican government and tell them “have at it”. While their profit margin‘s potentially can be larger in Mexico it would become zero quickly if the trucks coming out of the plant were crap and people stopped buying them. So one has to believe Toyota still has quality control checks in place and probably is keeping a somewhat quality guy/eye on the plant.

While I am all about keeping jobs in America and try to buy American when appropriate, I can also understand the business side of some decisions - whether I like it or not.

Fender and Taylor guitars have plants in Mexico between about 45 minutes or so south of their American plants. The guitars coming out of their Mexican plants, with their quality control in place are pretty dang nice. And oh did I mention, about a third of the cost of the ones coming out of the American plants.

    Just saying ...

If your VIN starts with a 3, it's mexican. 5 is Texas.

Or just check the VIN. Starts with a 3 = Mexico, starts with a 5 = US.

Another idiot on youtube complaining about Tacoma's! Why does anyone care about anything these idiots have to say! Do you like your truck? I do! I don't care where it was built. If you like it then who cares what others have to say about it?

    thanks for the replies.
this is very interesting and I'm going to find out as soon as I get done with my kona coffee and having some daylight.
Apparently our one and only Toyota dealership although having multi sites are somehow tied to Japan and wondering where they get their Taco's from

edit: oh, just checked my paperwork and it's a "3"

Scotty can be informative and entertaining, but in recent weeks he has been in trouble with the law, rumor has it a DWI, so yeah he is wound up and venting his frustrations ,he mentioned they may make him close his shop
I suspect he may be a little high in the last few videos.
