I'm looking for information ans maybe some photos of installed Kenwood TM-V71A. I'm getting ready to install mine in my 2nd Gen and would like to see some of the options y'all have used for mounting. Any help you can provide will be appreciated. I'm going through the thread but with 344 pages and counting it could take awhile and I'd like to go ahead and order any parts/mounts that would make the install easier. Thanks

Both ways. From when I had it on the dash and then again on the mount.

Sorry for the junk photo. Just ran out and shot it

I had my ft-8900 on top of my steering column for a while. It was ok. I bought a tech deck and mounted my FT-100XD on the right side. So it's just barely not covering the hazards button. I'm very happy with this location. Like it better there, then on the column.

I hadn't thought about on top of the steering column, I'll look at it but not sure I'd want it there.

The tm-v71a is pretty small. I bet you'll find a place for it you like in no time

I'm tall. I was able to find the right height to the wheel, so nothing was covered.

I have the d710 but it mounts the same as the V-71a. Mine is attached to a Lido seat mount on the passenger seat.

I don’t have photos but my TM-V71a head unit fits perfectly between the rear view mirror and headliner.

I was pointed to this thread from Reddit. I just picked up technician and general a week ago. I have a 2013 OR that I'm wanting to put a radio in. I also park this truck in a garage with a 7' door. I'm going to go with an FTM-400xdr. I am avoiding a hood ditch light mount for RF exposure concerns. Does anyone make a 3rd brake light mount for the second gen? I am not convinced yet I have the guts to drill my roof. Other thought was rear passenger brake light mount. Is the rear brake light mount worth trying to use?

I am adding my radio to try receiving air bands as I live near an airport. I have a 2.5 yr old that might think this is cool. I do some off roading on sand dunes in Michigan. Plus I am taking a trip in May to Rapid City SD for my cousin's wedding. Would be nice to see what I can get along that path and use it as a backup in an emergency. Trying to get the radio installed soon so I can learn it and program it before making the drive.

I'm trying to work my way through the thread but there is a lot to get through in these 344 pages.

Toss a mag mount up there for now then. I'm sure @foy1der could talk you into drilling for an nmo mount.

As far as a 3rd light mount, others will have to chime in for that. And that's a nice radio you'll have there. They sound great. Congrats

Check my build thread in my sig. I did a TM-V71 in my 3rd gen, but I'm sure you could do something VERY similar in a 2nd (not sure about the cup holder situation)

Direct link if you don't wanna read all my build thread (but you should :) )

Can you show more pics focused on the mounting you use.

I like how yours are all accessible without taking over the center area.

Doesn't even have a license plate yet!
If you look at my build thread in my sig, I mounted the head on a LIDO mount attached to the passenger's inner-most seat bolt. Worked fine, but I took it out and attached some havis console rails and faceplates for my Motorola XTL5000s.

They’re mounted on a Tech Deck Extreme with Ram mounts.
