Yea he was at 180(?) and is now 160 right? So why not do it again but go like 200 and then be a lean 180?

I know I know I’m a fat weak noob blah blah blah but this could be a good discussion

That's what strongmen do except they don't get as lean. All the top guys usually compete 50-100lbs more than their off season weight.

Look up Terry Hollands. He was competing at like 400+ then cut down super far and did bodybuilding lol no he's back like 350lb but still looks relatively lean.

Even me, I'm cutting down to 270-275 then before my next comp will bulk to 305-310lb.

It would take me a whileeeee. Especially being natty. Hell, I’m eating probably 4,000 cals a day and not gaining fast. To get to those kinda weights and be muscle but it would be cool as fuck. Like juji is a lean 230lb.

Gotta work with what you got, bro. Stay lean and do lightweight or come up a bit and do middleweight. It would be very very hard with your frame size to be competitive in heavyweight, so you shouldn't even worry about getting over 231lb.

Also just fyi there is no pro level for lightweight...

Only pro for middle? That’s 231 and down on average right? Atleast this mean I got plenty of room to add muscle

    Middle and heavyweight+ yep.

That 231 class is super competitive. The event weights aren't far off heavyweight events and everyone is fast. A lot of guys are 275 and cut down to that 231 because they can't hang with the 300lb+ guys.

Well shit that’s all cool to know. Haven’t even competed once so worrying about pro stuff is dumb really but still good to learn about it all. Regardless , this strongman stuff is fun and I never realized how big the community in it is and how welcoming they are.

it was a joke insinuating that because you drive nice ass cars I assume you make a shit ton of money. But you probably make damn good money based on what you just said. Sounds interesting as fuck. I kind of want to get out of supply chain/procurement and into more project management style work. Sounds like what you do is a mix of what I currently do and what I want to get into.

Yeah probably, I do a little bit of everything. It's not easy to get into but if you are prior military and/or have a TS/SCI security clearance that helps a lot.

Do you know how long it takes to gain 20lbs of mass?
Thats like a 3-4 year bulk. Plus anyone 5’8”-5’9” is going to feel pretty miserable at 200lbs.

When someone says lean to me, that means sub 10%. To be sub 10% and 180lbs at 5’9” is pretty fucking big.

Cutting and bulking cycles are the most efficient way to build muscle mass... but it is also the hardest way.
It requires the most absolute control of your diet. You can run off and just eat a bunch of junk but chances are all you get is fat. You’ll gain more fat than mass. Ideally you want to gain as little body fat as required. (Obviously its different for BB vs strongmen. Overall body weight increases help strongman/lifting but obviously are not advantageous to physique sports)
Then once you finish the bulk you have to turn around and cut all the fat you packed on. As you know dieting can be exhausting and miserable after awhile. You will lose strength and performance on a cut.

So its not for everyone. Some people would rather stay consistent throughout the year. Its slower progress but overall less time/life consuming, more comfortable, and you can maintain performance. Plus you look hot nakid all year round.

If you compete and want to on a high level. Its bulks and cuts. For those in natural sports or whos hobbies are strength... lean bulking/recomp is more workable into your life.

For me. I’ve been the 180 pulling decent numbers (for me based on the fact I was a noob). I felt like a slob. I’m not really wanting that ever again.
I’d like to get back to it this year once the knee is cleared. I’m going to start with some recomp and very very lean bulk.
I never want to diet again. I’m over it LOL

After doing a few bulks and cuts, I have determined that the best approach (for me) is just a slower bulk to maintain a proper non fat body shape. I hated the way I felt and looked at 235+. Never again. I will someday be 235 again, but it will be a healthier leaner 235. It takes longer and maybe harder to do so natty, but it ain't fucking easy even when on gear. This shit don't do magic. It doesn't get you to go to work everyday with a smile, with proper attitude and behavior, nor does it get you to the gym, or do the cardio, or eat the food, or Not eat the food because you can't. It doesn't do fuck all except enhance WHAT YOU DO. But, if you don't do anything at all - well, you're fucked.

There is no substitute for hard fucking work.

Went to turn the spigot on to wash my truck yesterday and forgot to turn the water on in the basement. Turned it on and the pipe was busted. So that’s fun. I forgot to turn it off ONE night it got below freezing.

Gear makes life 100 times more complicated.
You do a fuck load of research and then have to monitor like a thousand things. Then you have to plan it all out, stick yourself, and then deal with all the side effects and highs and lows of all of it.
Fuck that I’m too lazy for it haha.

I have a love/hate relationship with my new life. I haven’t lifted since the middle of December due to illness/surgery/back to illness. Obviously haven’t run since the beginning of Feb.
I get up, go to work, come home, and I’m legit passed out on the couch by 6:30pm most nights.
I do nothing. I feel like an 85 year old feeble old man... but at the same time I’m enjoying having zero of those stressful priorities.
Its funny when its game on, its game on. But when its game off I’m the laziest fucker there is.
I wish there was gear for stiff knees and motivation lol.
