I got that change thing that goes in the top of the console.
Hi. I am only about 700 miles into my 2020 TRD Off-Road, so this may be too soon to ask, but because I can't seem to find threads about this issue using the search bar, here I go. I am barely getting 15 MPG. I drive about 20 minutes to work, major roads for 15min, and 5min in a city to destination. I am downsizing from a big F-350, so it's better MPG than that truck already, but I had hoped for the sticker on the truck to be pretty close to actual numbers. I've tried driving in S, D, ECT MODE like other threads talked about. Thoughts??

I have seen other users with a "Fuelly" tag in their signature bar, with similar MPG ratings as you're getting. IIRC, I got closer to 20 mpg on a round-trip from the front range to the Grand Canyon. Enjoy your Taco!

Give it a bit to break in but it will only improve slightly unfortunately.

Winter is worst but I have a heavy right foot & the manual and I average about 13 to 15 this time of year.

Good luck I drive maybe around 10 miles to drop my son off and straight to work then from work to pick my son up which maybe totals around 10 miles. And at best I get 10.3mpg

Edit: I have a 2" leveling kit and 265/75/16 Wildpeak load E no extra equipment added on the truck other than me haha but since having it this is my 4th tank and I know I csnt judge my mpg calculations from the truck on the driving I do since my town is very small and I dont travel far enough to get an actual decent reading is my guess....

I drive pretty easy, ect mode and s5 <65. Mostly 55 to 60 on highway, don’t try to beat the lights in town, just plan on it turning red.

Depends really. Your truck is new so first tank or so it’s learning your driving habits. After the truck does all its learning then it’ll likely improve a little. My truck is now lifted and has 33” mud terrain tires on it and I drive across rolling hill after rolling hill and still getting 16.7 on the digital display. However despite the hills I have very little stop and go with only seeing 4 stops on way to work and only 2 on way home.

Personally I’d wait a few tanks to see how it improves over time and not even look at the digital readout of fuel economy. It’s winter so judging by your location in philly I’m assuming it’s much colder than here in Alabama and winter gas is here so that plays a small part also. Wait til summer time gets here. By then your truck will be well taught from your driving habits and you’ll likely see an increase over that time.

Coming up on 1 year and 30k miles of ownership I’m consistently in the 18-19 mpg range with about 70/30 highway/backroad driving. Both my 6.2L Yukon XL and 2500HD Duramax got better fuel economy, which combined with their substantially larger fuel tanks make the range on the Tacoma my biggest gripe. I’m in a gas station every other day it feels like.

Yes, there's another thread and I see a lot of posts with only like 15-16 miles per gallon:

50 mph is the sweet spot. Much faster than that and the mpg starts falling.

You'll get 3+ MPG after it breaks in and summer gas becomes available. Wait.

20 mpg seems to be my average, mixed city / highway with some towing. Speeds above 70 and aggressive throttle definitely affect mileage big time

I’m in the 15ish avg crowd. Winter gas, 2” lift, c load 265/70/17 tires, 300 lbs of gear. Maybe I get 17 if it’s all highway driving

edit: long bed too.. so, a lil heavier than the SB folks

I have a 2020 and up until about 1500 miles I was getting around 14-15 on the same route I take now. Now I’m averaging around 16.5-17 on the same route to work. About 1 mile of city 30mph and under, 6 miles of cruise control set at 45mph and another 1.5 miles with cruise at 55mph. Pretty flat road. This is also at 430am with little to no traffic or lights. When I get off work at 330pm I’m getting around 15-17 with the traffic and lights. and on the way to work at 430am I get 17-19 roughly. I drive pretty normal, in D DCLB 4wd. Seems pretty consistent with other vehicles I’ve had which are usually a few MPG below the window sticker. I haven’t taken it on highway trips since the truck had about 300 miles on it. All of my highway trips include mountain passes so I’m assuming I might be around 19mpg or 20mpg on those trips.

I think I deleted someone’s post while trying to respond to it. My bad!! I’m new at this.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the replies. I’m going to wait it out and try as many driving styles to see how much I can get out of the truck. I really love this thing.

I get 16 just about bone stock. It is what it is, unfortunately.

Yeah, give it some time and miles. They are great trucks, not perfect for sure but kind of like that favorite pair of jeans that fit just right after a few trips through the washer/dryer....fuel mileage is definitely finicky to achieve.

Honest question. Does winter driving/gas affect all vehicles or just Toyotas? My 1st Gen was the same way, junk in the winter. I never religiously tracked mpg with any of my previous vehicles

My tank average is routinely 14-16 mpg. Kinda stock. I drive like an asshole though

Bunch of factors at play. Winter fuel has less energy and less efficiency. Cold starts, idle time, greater friction as all oils are thicker. Here's some good info.
