-Measuring the shock like you mentioned will need to be done with the full weight of the vehicle on the coilover, not sitting on the ground. Odds are, the old setup will not be lifted, so matching to that height isn't ideal. Also, not sure why you referenced "stock LCA's", meaning stock lower control arms?
-Adjusting the preload nut at the very least needs to have the weight of the vehicle OFF the shock. Adjusting that preload nut with a 600lb spring will be extremely difficult, dangerous and you will most likely damage the aluminum preload nut. When we do installs here in the shop, we will install the coilovers as is... drive it around the block, bring it back in and remove the coilovers to adjust preload. We have a heavy duty spring compressor we use when adjusting preload. I'm aware this is not always an option for most.
-Every truck is different, weighs different and will require its own amount of preload to get the lift height you want. Threads showing will also depending on shock brand and spring length/rate.

 

Are the front 2.5 Coilovers extended travel? If they are, you can simply add more preload to the spring. Not necessary to swap out to a longer spring. Longer spring does not increase lift height, it will just decrease the amount of preload needed to achieve X height.

 

Thanks for your help with this and for answering my questions. This is how much preload I have now on the driver's side. There is less on the passenger side but not by much. Do you still think it's still ok to add more preload? If you think it's ok I'll leave the 13" springs on but if you think I will benefit from longer springs I'm ok with having them swapped out since I have them sitting in my garage. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind selling them to put $$$ towards mountain bike gear.

What is the shock length measurement from top of the top cap to lower shock bolt? (sitting at ride height on level ground)

 

What did you use to mount your rear resi's? Mine are piggy backed and i hate it.

 

You have Fox piggyback rear shocks?

 

Probably very old steel bodied 2.0's that are inverted. I've seen a few of them on 05+ tacoma's

They look exactly like those? Those are not piggyback, remote reservoir mounted to the body. What do you hate about them?

 

I dont like that they have the chance of rubbing on things (Ive had to adjust them probably 5 different times from rubbing on other parts of the truck) the Resi's are getting beat up by trail use. Id rather have them up out of the way from everything.

A new extended resi hose that mounts the resi to the frame will solve your issue. I have fixed many of those shocks because the shock rotates and gets caught under the frame, it happens on 4runners and Tacoma's.

 

Yeah, as others have mentioned you have the 2.0s. I've got 2.5s mounted with the mount/clamps that came with them (drilled to frame) but I'm sure a universal would work. I've seen a couple folks on here chaff or pinch a line on those 2.0s. Theres a piggy back shock out there somewhere that I've seen.

Yes, thats why I asked for measurements from top of top cap to center of lower shock bolt. Looks excessive, but maybe it's a heavy truck. Threads showing can be deceiving

 

Nice. What are your first impressions with just the rears on? And there was a typo in my last post. What tune did you decided to go with from accutune?

 

Don't know if it's been posted before but I just replaced the lower bearings (LCA/Shock attachments) on my Fox 2.5 coilovers. The bearings were labeled FKS10T if anyone looking to do the same needs p/n info to order. Saw them available at Summit for less $$$ than I paid from DSM.

 

Rite rite, i think the hose is long enough its just figuring out a bracket solution to mount to the frame I suppose.
