A little girl asked her father: 'How did the human
    race appear?'

    The father answered, 'God made Adam and Eve;
they had children; and so was all mankind made.'

Two days later the girl asked her mother the same
question. The mother answered, 'Many years ago
there were monkeys from which the human race
    evolved.'

The confused girl returned to her father and said,
'Dad, how is it possible that you told me the human
race was created by God, and Mom said they developed
    from monkeys?'

The father answered, 'Well, Dear, it is very simple.
I told you about my side of the family, and your mother
    told you about hers.'

Very well explained - and I agree completely. Any explosion or "big bang" so to speak creates nothing but chaos - NOT order. Obviously things in this universe are very well ordered - thus there MUST be an "orderer", namely GOD.

Its a shame that Baptists seem to have a bad name on this board - and in general. I happen to agree with most of the historic Baptist confessions, but unfortunately many Baptist have gone the way of legalism - earning your way to heaven.

For you scientific guys (of which I consider myself one ), this book (The Case for a Creator) is a good read from a guy who started out to disprove God, and creationism and ended up proving to himself the opposite.

    http://www.leestrobel.com/

Not to say that you can "prove" God - that is what faith is all about. But when you really, and I mean really dig deep into the scientific facts, you will see that it actually requires faith (in man?) to believe in evolution. There are so many unanswered questions in the "theory" of evolution. Even during our short lifespans we are seeing massive shifts of scientific thought on the subject of evolution and the big-bang. Seems every other day scientist come up with a new age for the universe, or statements such as this: "it was previously thought that such and such evolved from such and such...but scientists now think that..." Evolution from ONE SPECIES TO ANOTHER has never been proven. The only true proof would be to witness it - which would - according to evolutionary scientists - take billions of years" At best now all we can do is make an assessment based upon the evidence that we see, and where we "start" from in our assessment plays a major factor in where we end up. If I start from an "old earth" perspecitve (big bang), well I fit all the evidences into that. If I start from a "young earth" perspecitve (creationism), I fit all the evidences into that.

Creationists have gotten a bad rap - in that many in the scientific community think it is completely idiotic to believe in creationism, when in fact - if you start from a young earth perspective - there are some very compelling arguments against evolution and for creation. Someone else mentioned this site which documents a lot of these agruments:

    http://www.answersingenesis.org/

The Bible, well it's timeless and doesn't change. God's word - His revelation to mankind about Himself. Yes "written" by men, but these men were inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is what it is, and says what it says. You either believe (ALL) of it or you don't.

Hope I don't sound to preachy. Just wanted to give more on the Christian perspective. :D

    I haven't read all the discussions....but...

Humans and our limited time on this earth - knows NOTHING about the universe & the scientific perspective. We know nothing.....
The scientists and everyone else who studies the stars, earth, and everthing else pertaining to science......has just scuffed the surface of what there is to know.

It's funny.... but my husband and I watch Discovery and we love all the sciense programs & such. People are always wondering "Is there life on other planets?" And my answer to that always is....OF COURSE THERE IS!!!

The Universe is endless. The amount of stars/planets/debris or whatever is endless (atleast, we've never found the end of the universe). Earth can't be the only LUCKY planet in the gazillions of planets that has life. For real...there's tons of life out there in various stages of developement and FAR BEYOND our capabilities and highly intelligent.

If you were a highly intelligent being on another planet and you had the technology and capabilities to visit anywhere around the universe....would you FIND and want to visit earth? Hell no!!

    :D:eek:

People, science and religion should not be at odds with each other. When it appears to be, it's really people not understanding something about one or the other. If one considers God to be "beyond" time and space, then he is not even under consideration by science which studies the interactions between matter and energy. Science cannot (and doesn't even try to) answer deep questions like "what's my purpose in life" etc.

Also, considering God's "beyond"-ness, wouldn't a natural frame of reference for him to be the expanding edge of the universe? Applying Einsteinian special relativity to that frame of reference (and a 14-18 billion year old universe in the earth's frame of reference) puts the universe in the middle of its 7th 24-hour period. Ironic. Using an advanced understanding of science and of God brings a harmony.

The God I believe in is not a god of confusion. He's the author of Truth. All true statements are a result of his creative act, whether they are discovered via science (the study of the creation) or religion/theology (the study of the creator). There's harmony if we look deeply enough.

When i read the bible i believe what it says. If you look at the dates that the events took place many times it predicted what was going to happen several hundred years in advance. (prophecy) It predicted when the world formed into a one world government, and became united, and the people were like those in the times of Noah that the AntiChrist would rise and The end would be Nigh. It also talks about the economic collapse of the world he would fix the problems and promise peace. I believe that we have reached that point. The world is ready to follow Him. The Mayan Calendar only goes up to 2012. I am willing to bet that is significant i think that the anti christ will rise soon and take over within that time.

well like my Pastor always said, " wheres theres a design, theres a designer. Where theres a creation, theres also a creator." i believe that evolution as explained by charles darwin, only explains Natural selection of the species. it doesnt say, we evolved from monkeys. but that we have similar similarities. Darwins book he wrote while abord the HMS Beagle, explains his belief about the finches on the Galapagos island and how natural selection allowed those with favorable characteristics to survive better on the island than those with less than favorable conditions to survive.

i believe that God created the Heavens and the earth. Nuff' said

I belive in God, Jesus, etc...and I go to church most every Sunday, BUT, this Mayan Calender thing bugs me. Has anyone ever thought that the Dude makeing the calender got bored? Maybe his buddy came over and they decided to go fishing? "..........Whats up, Jim?.......Just working on a calender...........What date are you up to?.......meh, 2012.....Dam, dude! Take a break! Lets go chase some Mayan chicks!!!"

Thus, the Calender was never completed.

i saw a thing on the history channel about it.
Scholars believe that it Could be the end of the world as we know it. Or it could just simply be the ending of an era and the beginnig of a new era. Calendars like that fade. it could be like the 2000 prediction that the world was going to come to an end end.....Did it?? no. but i do agree the mayan calandar does bug me a little bit.

Not really. How many times have you put something off?
What would happen if you had to, say, pick up the dog crap in your yard, and God forbid, you were killed. 2000 years later asome scientists could say that "....airsoft_warrior didnt pick up his dog crap that day. Think he knew something was gonna happen?". I cant help that people wernt that much different then as opposed to now, in the sence that they had hobbies, chores, jobs, whatever. Hell, it could have been a big joke.
