"Smooth" in that it would be even with the frame rails and any impact is deflected by properly supported plates.

I think this kind of gets to the point that trucks are different, and uses are different.

Larry sees a benefit from his diff-drop. Others don't. Even components as precisely engineered as modern vehicle parts have tolerances and minor differences.

For some people, a diff drop may have some benefit. I can see how it's a risk in some situations as well.

Also, Larry, you're running a shaved diff drop, right? What did you shave it down to again? I'm surprised they don't offer these things in more than one size.

Also, guys, I was wondering: Which is better, A-TRAC or Lockers?

He THEORIZES it would have deflected the blow. Energy is STILL transfered into the DD, given the impact he sustained. Being as the DD INCREASES the leverage the force of whats hitting that location, even if the skid "defleted" 75% of the energy of the impact, being at the integrity of that spot is compromised by the DD installation, the results may STILL have been the same. Skid plates arent Magical peices of steel. When they bend, and they make contact with a crossmember, that means that some enrgy was transfered to that spot. Hold your hand behind an 1/8" peice of steel, and let me hit it with a hammer. Tell me you dont feel anything.

To those that want to believe it's possible to drop a component that's mounted at a pivot point by lowering the other end of the mounting bar, have at it.

For anyone that wants to look at that last picture I posted and make an informed cost/benefit decision, the information is there.

i read most of the posts on this thread, but i was wondering what the conditions were when the damage took place? how fast were you going? were you in the air and then came down on the rock? were there tons of rock you wre bouncing over? what else?

i see that much damage and i wonder what it takes to make that happen. maybe it comes down to the driver and how hard you are willing to wheel? i guess i am really conservative off road because i dont see how I could do that to my truck (even with the diff drop).
