Yes, there will be two PM groups I'll start.

One for everyone to Roger up they are actually going, then another for the people who commit with locations and times.

I'll do that late April/early may.

I think that is the most likely spot for my relocation, well the bedrack at least. I have been trying to think of ideas, and the only other option that works for me is in the spare tire or the little hole between the tailgate and bumper where the jack tool goes. I think mobtown makes a plate if irc. I looked into it late last year, and haven't revisited yet.

I have no idea what is in play, how far will this trip be from arcadia NP? I may jump out Sunday after trains and head that way for Monday, but it will likely be busy being the official kick off to summer and a national park.

Good luck. Memorial day on MDI is a mess. Hair over 2 hours south of Millinocket to Bar Harbor last I did the trip. Sunday night into MDI won't be bad but going south from MDI back home on Monday afternoon is going to be a disaster. I'm considering the same, though - Friday/Sat night in NMW, head back south to Old Orchard for Sun night and head back early AM Monday or hang around and have another beach day and head out late like 9PM Monday night. ANP is nice, though. Cadillac is a nice hike but not a brilliant drive to summit.

I am talking sometime in the future.... like september... it wouldnt be a cheap trip.. we're talking $100-150 in fuel alone, add in meals/groceries, and the CAT ride back ($300 forvehicle/driver (add$99 per person for the CAT ride 1 way)).... would be a great trip though...

He was looking at going down on the monday of the memorial day weekend. I think there's a crew doing upstate new york/VT over labor day weekend and I thought there was talks of a columbus day weekend NMW trip too.

Started that HAM class last night and it was the first section high level stuff, fell asleep within 5 minutes. o_O will try again this evening. There's a test this weekend and next weekend nearby I'd like to be able to jump on before my college class picks up.

    Gitter done.

If you can score 28-29 out of 35 on a practice test you're good to go.

Sorry I am refering to another trip up through NMW, over to houlton border crossing, and over to PEI/NS then taking the CAT back to Bar Harbor, ME. thinking september would be a great time to do it.

I did a practice and some stuff was just foreign. Some other stuff was a gimme without even reading into it, like when is willful interference with a signal allowed? When the guy is annoying >:|

Not too worried just want to at least watch up on it before I take the test. I'm only using it for handheld and at most an antenna off the truck anyway, not setting up satellites and stuff in my yard :p

Yeah I remembered you asking about that. I'd be interested if there was wheeling but if it's just a highway tour, probably not :\ I'd rather go south for that much driving, for me in RI at least.

I see we had a small date change? These dates work so much better for me, excited to cruise some logging roads with yall.

Also a question i have been meaning to ask, is there a base camp or some place we will be meeting at the first night to group up?

    T1A11, never.

Haha. Kidding. My Google skills are strong. You'll learn the majority of that stuff after the test right now it doesn't mean much because you're not doing anything with it. Pass the test, get a Rig, realize that you can talk across half a state and be merry.

And satellites are cool. But I prefer talking to Ireland from the truck haha

Yeah I mean my goal is basically just when out in groups, anything more would just be messing around really.

I know the answer is never :p it helps that the test bank is completely open source so I can actually do a "practice test" with all 300 some odd questions. They're all mostly common sense + I have an engineering degree for the circuitry stuff. There was some odd stuff though, like I didn't know how to begin an emergency broadcast because....well.... never needed to :D so I hope spending an hour or two on youboob will be enough. There's a local class that meets 2hr/week for 8 weeks o_O if it wasn't just for off road stuffs I'd consider it. It's free, so maybe next winter when I'm looking for something to do.

Being completely new to the overland scene, i have no idea what I'm doing. I am quickly coming to terms with a CB is great for highway, but have recently learned about BLM lands. The biggest secret of the west apparently, you can just go wherever you want, and use the land. Such a weird concept considering you can't even use the trails here because most end with a new gate on the newly acquired property. With that being said, the range of HAMM seems like a logical progression that will have to be made eventually. For this year, I just want to get out with some people that are more in the know, and figure out what I don't know.

I'll probably have both. HAM is great but if your group is using CB then who cares how good it is? :)

Yeah the northeast is a different animal in terms of land useage and whatnot. You go out west and it's just completely different. Even down south is a lot better. Hell, it's legal to put a gate for class IV roads in NH or VT can't remember which, just can't lock it - it's legal so you can block off farm land, but not block access. Anything else like log blocks you can just remove from the trail since they're illegal. I'd have to look at PA.

But yeah I'm starting bare bones, I plan to sleep in the cab for a while, etc. Not going to load up on a bunch of stuff and then learn that (a) I don't need it anyway or (b) I hate camping anyway and only do day trips. :D

looking into an inreach myself... whe we get inot the NMW. we are a far cry from any type of civilization.. and the functionality of the inreach over the spot is a LOT. the spot X messenger is a lot cheaper, and receives messages direct, but allows you to type in on its screen a reply.. I can get a spotX messenger + screen protector +cradle for Ram mount... for less than an inreach Mini. however the spot x works on a different system than the InReach.. InReach with GloNas/ works everywhere.. and for $15/mo basic service.. I'm getting the in-reach...
