I've been searching online, but I cannot find a definitive answer.

Is there an LSD option for the 1st Gen that will also let me keep the E-Locker?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Did you word this correct ??

If you can run two different devices in one differential even with a 6 figure budget I am not sure it is possible.

I am always learning new things

I’d like to know if this is possible as well, although I’m guessing it’s not considering I’ve never seen one. LSD’s are great for street driving, but I wouldn’t want to ditch my locker for one.

You could have an LSD up front and keep the e-locker in the back.

It would be possible to build a diff that has LSD and locking capabilities, but I’m not aware of anyone that has built such a device for a Tacoma.

I wonder why this isn’t I thing, I would certainly buy one, and I’m sure there’s a market for it.

2nd and 3rd gen TRD OR Tacomas kind of have it...the have the rear e-locker as well as an electronic brake feature that mimics the effects of an LSD. ATRAC I think it's called?

Not a true mechanical LSD inside the diff though

I'd still be interested even if I had to buy an entire new axle housing.

It's one or the other. They are two completely different mechanical traction aid devices.

The newer trucks have electronic traction aids like A-Trac, which basically just apply the brake to which ever wheel is spinning. This negates the need for a mechanical LSD. So in a sense you get both.

If you are looking to get an aftermarket one, you pretty much need to decide what you need based on how you drive. Daily driver, get an LSD. Of you offroad, get a locker.

That said, I've driven open diff (+ locker) 4x4 trucks for 25 years, and I've gotten by just fine without an LSD. When I need a little more traction in the snow or something, I pop it in 4x4, and instantly have 1000% more traction than a 2wd with an LSD or even a locker.

    Still be interested in what...both?

You'd need to swap out your rear end every time you decide you want to go back and forth between LSD or an e locker if you buy another housing.

    Would make no sense...

For what’s available it’s one or the other sure, but it is certainly possible to design a limited slip differential that also has locking functionality. The designs are not mutually exclusive. You can do both with a single differential if you wanted to.

That is what he is referring to.

Should I replace my LSD with mushrooms? What are the pros and cons?
