Take a look at his post history and you'll see a trend. Guy's just out here for lulz and doesn't add anything to this forum (nor this world).

The mileage increase with miles is due to all the rough edges polishing in the engine, trans, rear diff, and any bearings that are moving when the truck is moving. As they smooth out you can have an increase in mileage due to less friction/resistance. My first 2 tanks were ~20mpg and went up slowly to 22-24 over the next 10,000 or so miles.

All the disparities in mileage can be due to added accessories, bigger tires, driving habits(jackrabbit start/stops), traffic, idle time, loads in the bed. Also hills and elevation. Flatlanders don't have to accelerate as many times as us hill folk and can keep the pedal in the same place for longer.

The colder it is the more friction from diff oil, engine oil, and wheel bearing grease as it is thicker and resists movement. Winter fuel blends cause mileage losses as well. Summer blend gas has about 2% greater energy value than winter blend.

And then there are people who fudge their numbers cuz everything is a competition to them. Personally my 2017 2.7 5MT can get 24mpg if I drive it like a grandpa. That's not too fun so I drive it spiritedly and accept 22mpg in the summer and ~20-21 in the winter. I always calculated miles driven divided by gallons put in the tank as I have no fancy automatic calculation--dollar menu Taco.

    Hope this helps.

My 2017 SR5 (V6/Auto/4x4) got 19 mpg city 21.5 highway consistently over 3 years of ownership. My 2020 - too early to tell, but I expect the same.

    Started at 18.5-19

    Went potato and put 35s

now I sit at roughly (downhill, with the wind) 13

Totally my fault though and I’m not mad. Will regear soon that may help. But if not, it sits more than it gets driven, on the road. More of an off-road toy now

Just got a 2020 TRD Sport V6 and it's been saying 25-26. Mostly freeways in moderate traffic and I drive pretty easy, but it seems too good to be true. How accurate are the fuel economy numbers on the display?

Mine has generally been very accurate. But you can do your own calculation. Fill your tank, reset your trip computer, drive, fill your tank, and divide miles driven by gallons filled.

I compare mine at every fillup. Its never been more than .5mpg off, and ususally is right on or maybe .1mpg off.

    I average 17 at best. I don't think I've ever hit near 20 mpg.

I recently made a run from Los Angeles to San Diego (about 140 miles round trip). I decided to see what kind of mileage I could get if I really watched my speed/throttle. Driving on the freeway around 60-62mph the best I could squeeze out of my 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro was 24.7 mpg. I had to drive like a granny and on many of the hills I slowed to 50mph so driving like this wouldn't be realistic for me, I like to drive around 65-70mph on the freeway.

I am getting 87MPH mostly while towing and going uphill. On flat terrain I get about 200MPG on my Taco TRD Sport 4x4 automatic. I think it's because the air dam. I am afraid to remove it because it'll hurt my amazing MPG.....

Best I ever saw was 22mpg running up to about 7,500k elevation and back down to sea level for about a 350 mile trip. Around town I regularly saw about 15 mpg. That was stock. Since then I’ve lifted added sliders and run heavy 33’s and regeared to 5.29. Now I get about 16-17mpg on the same long highway drives. 14-15 around town.
