I cut 16 guage sheet metal for the frame and the used something like this to snap the switches in.

The biggest comfort-centric mod to me was ditching the basic spec manual options (crank windows, manual locks, manual mirrors) and installing all OEM power options from a 2004 Double Cab.

Here’s a basic wiring schematic I drew up, it uses all-stock wiring from the doors all the way up to the kick panel where my retrofit system takes over.

Here’s a later system I built for a customer with an extended cab, and no power mirrors. The secondary set of connectors absent are for the speakers, tweeters, and mirrors.

 

Good lord...lol. Your posts are always so technical, it's amazing. I remember you posting something about elocker swap wiring that I plan on using if I ever get around to doing it. I just dont want my truck down during turkey season!

 

E-Locker is even easier, just need a SPDT relay and a three way switch.

 

Electrical stuff is not my forte. I dread doing it, but hopefully it becomes easier to understand. I'm trying to just use the wiring harness I pulled off the donor truck. Hopefully the plugs match up.

 

Not that easy to use the donor harness, because you have to connect it to the 4WD ECU and splice then connectors on your transfer case for 4LO and 2HI. Or you can do the gray wire mod to bypass that.

Or you can just buy the standalone harness from Low Range.

 

Yea I have the 4wd ECU and was planning on doing the gray wire mod. The Low Range off road harness is my back up option. But I have a low threshold for going that route, if I could catch it on sale, that would probably be enough to sway me honestly

 

If you have the measurements of how you cut the plate, that would be helpful!

 

I kind of free wheeled it. I don't have "measurements" but here's what I did.

I put the blue tape on the headliner. I drew out the shape I wanted the final piece to look like. Then I put the tape on the piece of sheet metal I was going to use. I cut to the tape but left the tape on it. Then I put the plastic switch frame on the tape and traced around it. I followed the top and bottom line BUT I cut the sides about 1/2 inch in from the line. I bent those 1/2 tabs in and that is what is holding the assembly in the headliner... thise tabs are pinched to the headliner.

 

Not sure if this has been suggested yet but adding a little car builders sound deadening will make it a good bit quieter inside more like a modern vehicle. I don’t have any in my 01 Tacoma and I get a decent amount of outside noise in the cab, from bumps in the road, to the tires, engine, etc., nothing crazy but could be quieter.
My brother has it in his 07 4Runner with ko2s and it makes a big difference. If you’re going for comfortability I recommend it.

 

Very best thing I did for my 02 SBDC Prerunner was upgrade to Tundra brakes. Potentially life changing upgrade! Job was pretty easy after watching a few DIY videos. Not sure you can do it to the 95 but I’m sure there are plenty on here who will.

 

I added iggee seat covers, nice amount of padding, vynel, fit very well. More comfort than stock cloth seats.

Tundra brakes are one of the best things I've done to my truck. If it's a 95.5 to 04 it will work (just have to make sure the wheels clear)

Can one do this mod on a 95 Tacoma? If so what parts do I need?

 

1995-1997 has a very different wiper stalk than 1998-2004. I don’t know exactly how to change them, maybe someone can chime in.
