Does anybody have one of these steering wheel knobby thingies?

I got one back in 2008 cuzI had a stroke and couldn't move anything on my right side before I started taking therapy.

All better now.

Anyways, this thing helps out so much in manuverability. You all know that our steering wheels are so freaking smooth that there is little friction between it and our hands. It is very handy in the rare occasions when you are reversing and have to do sharp turns and the rear view mirrors just won't cut it (causing you turn your head back to see better).

This knob makes everything so much better. Especially in emergency situations, such as sudden turns (or doing donuts or fishtailing off road) .

Or when doing tight turns, I'm sure almost everybody does the open palm on the steering wheel to do so.

I have had this thing on my previous truck and my current one as well, and I must say it has been my cheapest mod (cuz I needed it at the time, and have kept it ever since) and the most practical. I can't remember how much it cost but no more than $12 I THINK... at autozone.

Does any one else have one of these?

 

suicide knobs, they're awesome! My old man always had them on his vehicles, tractors, lawn mowers... They def make tight turning a lot easier but be for warned, they are illegal in many states due to safety issues.

i had a friend that had one offroading in his old jeep(no power steering). he hit a rock funny and it forced his wheel and it smacked his hand pretty bad... could have broken it

I think thats why alot of states make them illegal because they can hurt you ?

 

I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I needed to turn so tightly that my palm didn't work.
And the illegal in most states thing- Totally makes it not worth it. I do enuf other stuff that I have to pay attention to other states different laws.

For your medical purposes- I'm kinda torn. It's good that it was able to give you mobility/freedom to do stuff for yourself- but I'm not sure how comfortable I am with facilitating someone driving who has limited function of part of their body. Nothing against you- but in an accident situation...seems risky to me.

 

Slightly off topic, but what in the world are you doing having a stroke at your age? Details!?

 

As I stated in my original post "I'm all better now" aaaand I am even more physically fit than before the stroke. Hell I can curl 45's six times That is pretty good for some one in my weight category.

The pic in my sig proves that I am better as it was taken a year and a half after the stroke. No one would ever guess from that pic that I was once half paralyzed in a hospital bed and coudln't even sit up right on my own, and I'm FUCKIN proud to have recovered the way I have.

Appearently "monster energy drink + N.O. xplode (caffeinated energy pre work out drink) do not mix well before and during a work out. The docs said that the two mixed together might have caused my blood pressure levels to rise so high as to cause a blood vessel in my brain to burst open on it's own accord and fuck my world up.

Well I took n.o. xplode for 2 years before that happened. my mom said that I drank a monster earlier that day, but I don't remember drinking the monster. ( I was on leave.)

 

Aww no man- I'm not saying you are or are not a hazard now- And good on you for working as hard as you have to get to where you are today. Just the concept of having someone who had a stroke and maybe doesn't try as hard as you to get back to 100%. There are poeple out there who will look att his device as a "way out" of PT/effort.

 

Yea I know what you mean about "a way out" or an alternative.

When I was going through therapy in the hospital I realized then and there that I wanted to become a physical therapist so that I can help others in their recovery.

Now I am going to school full time knocking the pre requisites out of the way to apply for the PT program.

 

Yea that happened once a while back, I learned to keep clear of that thing when going through rocky terrain

 

Yeah. Resistance training causes HUGE spikes in blood pressure, especially if you hold your breath while doing so (google the Valsalva Maneuver).

Overall risk of cardiovascular illness is lowered with *correct* resistance training technique because the body benefits from the exercise. But during exercise you can spike your BP way up.

 

During our physical evaluation test for EMS they take our vitals after finishing it.
My heart rate was like 220bpm and I had a BP of 180/100. It was ridiculous.

Finished with 30 seconds left to spare though. (Out of 2:30)

 

i dont have one but im extremely jealous... ive always wanted one. every single one of my friends have them and they are awesome. tractor knobs is what we call them you mainly find them on tractors around here

While a broken hand wouldn't be fun, I believe these were outlawed due to too many people burying them into their foreheads in accidents. This was before the safety features of today, but I could still see the possibility of breaking some ribs/face with the right type of impact.

 

Off topic but..

Holy hell Nitric Oxide AND a Monster? Be glad youre alive. Im glad you recovered so well. I used to take the same brand of N.O. it worked for the pump but I stopped after a couple of months. I remember the first time i took them my whole body turned red and itchy because I waited too long to start my workout lol.

If I am correct, that shotover canyon swing is the same place where they have the shotover hydro boat in Australia, correct?

 

My first truck didn't have power steering and I tried arguing with the inspection place to let me keep one of these on my truck. Didn't work, had to take it off to pass. They made it a lot easier to drive in the city though.
