    Hi everyone,

I moved to SD a couple years ago, and this past Friday I finally got the Taco I had been dreaming about for years - a Cement OR 4x4. By Monday someone had broken into it :(

I've always been diligent about not keeping anything visible in street-parked cars. I intentionally parked under lights, right next to townhouses in a 'good area', the alarm was on, and didn't have anything laying out that would be visible to steal. They took what was in it - the owner's manual, smog receipts, and ½ pack of gum. BIG SCORE.

I don't know what else I could have possibly done to make it less 'tempting' to break into. Are Tacoma break-ins pretty common in SD? Any tips from the folks here who have seen it all?

    Thanks

I've left my truck parked on the street in IB and Lincoln Acres for long periods of time with nothing happening. I think you just had some bad luck.

People are scumbags. Someone broke into the beater I drove in HS parked in front of my parents house. Stole my carwash coupons, breath mints and $5 sunglasses.
Just do what you did, don't keep anything of value in there.

Hey man congrats on the truck! The break-in...that sucks. I live in PB and all I can say it keep doing what you’re doing. Make sure you lock your glovebox and tailgate. My last taco had the tailgate stolen and since then I keep that locked at all times.

    Hope so!

Thanks man. Can't even imagine being in a situation where I'd risk jail over some mints & coupons...

Hopefully I'm good for the next 20 then

Thanks for the tip! Will lock the tailgate for sure.

And thank you everyone for the reassurances. I thought there was a chance this was my life now...

Hopefully, what I was getting at is luck just sucks sometimes. I was surfing when it happened and they stole my pants underwear towel and belt, but left my shoes and shirt. Tweakers happen.

The only place I ever had a problem was in national city. Someone had broken into my old ranger and took my gym bag.

i live in bankers hill where the homeless are practically my neighbors and i haven't had my truck broken into yet. i haven't even had my soft tonneau cover knifed.

hopefully my luck holds for another few months until i move up north with more protected parking.
