I haven't seen them side-by-side, so I'll defer to you. To me, they just SEEM smaller, but maybe it's just because they sit lower. Here's one I saw at a base in Qatar; they all look exactly like this. They also have Land Cruiser pickup trucks over here, which are unlike anything I've seen before. Haven't had a chance to snap a pic of one yet.20200302_132157.jpg 20200302_132313.jpg

Completely agree, I like the size. If anything, I wish it was a few inches longer for more leg room in the back seat, but since my kids are in college now, that's not a deal breaker anymore since we won't be doing family road trips anymore (previous vehicle was an '06 Ridgeline, which was a road trip beast).

I want a truck like the original Ford Courier. If any of them built one i would be first in line to get one.

    Mostly dust and dirt.
I see lots of Tacoma’s being used as work trucks by working class people.

So you see some Toyotas being used as work trucks. I have seen this too. In fact, I have used my 01 as a work truck. It’s shocking how little tile it takes to be overloaded. Not much. Which is why it can’t compete as a work truck for someone who needs a dedicated work truck, that routinely needs to transport loads that would be too heavy for the Tacomas brakes to safely transport. Can someone do it? Sure. Is it safe? Not if the truck is overloaded.

If someone needs a full time truck to transport the days haul of 2 crates of cherry tomatoes from their 2 acre farm, yeah. Tacomas will do it. Otherwise, it is what it is, an off road utility vehicle.

The nerve of you kind sir! To tell me what my truck can and can't do. My truck will carry those 2 crates of cherry tomatoes, and do so with pride and accomplishment. You sir should be ashamed of yourself! Trying to assume my trucks pronoun! I never!

I kinda see someone who lives in the city complaining a truck is too big like a farmer saying his Corrola can't hold much hay.

considering it directly related to the topic at hand...... CAFE standards were changed during that political regime. Isnt it ironic that the intent was the improve gas mileage but it just increased the size of trucks and possibly lowered it. Thats effective politics

Finally saw a land cruiser pickup long enough to take a picture of (while doing a slow roll in my car in front of a Qatari guard shack no less ). If you want a smaller PU, that should fit the bill! 20200304_131450.jpg

The 75 series is a lot narrower than a 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma. Axle width on them is 1435 mm (56.5") while it's 63.2" on a 2005+ Taco. Overall width is 1690 mm (about 66.5 inches) compared to 75.2". A 70 series is more comparable in size to a 79-95 truck or 1st gen Tacoma.

A modern 70 Series (toyota.au) is damn near "American" full size though

And even if these things got 15 mpg (not far from what I get now) I'd buy one. Unless they wanted over 30K which I really don't see how they could justify unless 'because we can'. Toyota wasn't that expensive 'because we can' 20 yrs. ago.

Doesn't look like they've grown that much. It's still around 200 mm narrower, which is 8 inches or so.

I think the panles feel more tucked n but its overall the same size... the body work is definitely less 'aggressive' with the hilux...

True, and I want to say the wheel diameter is smaller, but I didn't have a tape measure with me to check.

Just had a look, this from the 2020 Hilux brochure. Range of width for Extra-Cab and Double Cab is 1855mm to 1885mm, which is 73" to 74.2". The 2019 Tacoma is given 74.4" to 75.2" overall width. So they are closer in size that I'd have thought.

I saw one last year and was curious what the hell it was. I makes a lot more sense seeing the rear section on the one you posted. I couldn’t figure out the purpose of what looked like a rear PTO and mount. Pretty wild!
