After paying $500 to get those windows. I spent $0 to be in basically the same position.

Yeah, so about those windows....my build starts this month, I'm really on the fence about keeping them.

Anyone here had them for a while and decided that they could've save the dough?

I kinda have the idea that it would get filthy pretty quickly. I generally only use my rear view mirror to stink-eye my kid, and wave at the friendly commuter tailgating me in bumper to bumper traffic. Saving $400 on this thing could be pretty nice.

    Opinions appreciated.

I didn’t have anything to compare it to when I paid up front after only seeing insta posts, but if I measured it based off TW posts (mine included), I’d keep 4hundo in my pocket haha!

But, I’m glad I got them, I like them. Not crucial though

The windows are large enough that your rear view mirror is still useful. If you drive on bad enough roads it will become useless though. I liked having them when it was rainy and stormy outside as it made the tiny 5’ bed feel a little less claustrophobic and lets in a good amount of natural light.

Thanks all, I'm still 50/50at this point. Seems I'm right there with you @mac_2_nite

@crazysccrmd your logic is pretty sound. If I stick the little dude down there or have to deal with random inclement weather, they would be beneficial.

I may ask the dude what he thinks and tell him he owes me 200. Bust open that piggy bank kid! lol...(I'm only kidding.)

Side note ----Any recent owners see improvements/fixes on some of the earlier model issues discussed here?

I got windows and would get them again. I did tint the rear window.

Windows are less secure or could break.

Being able to see out in bad weather is a plus. Backing up on the trail or in a parking lot is much easier with windows.

It is all personal preference which advantage or drawback is a deal breaker for you personally.

Speaking of windows... anybody considering adding sliding windows (or other ventilation options) on the side panels? My dog rides in a gunner kennel in the bed and I'm worried about airflow, esp. now that GFC isn't recommending the "dog hack" any longer.

Had my GFC (white panels, which helps a bunch) installed in the fall so it's not been an issue yet. I run an indoor/outdoor thermometer from the cab to be able to keep tabs on the temps and so far it's within a few degrees of the outside temps. Definitely thinking of options for summer if I see temp creeping up while driving. Luckily it's pretty easy to pull over and air things out but still – pain in the ass.

I'm sure it would look janky af and probably have an impact on the hinges, but I don't see a ton of other options. :/

Finally, I tried to get the side window suggestion going on GFC site but nobody hopped on. Any way this is what I’m thinking about adding because of my dogs.

    https://www.dkhardware.com/passenge...MI_oPKoouK6AIVuh-tBh1PYAXdEAQYAiABEgLUAPD_BwE

also read up on window install on vans seems pretty straight forward just not sure the hinges can take the added weight. Also it’s a huge commitment to cut a giant hole in the side. I thought I would probably only do one side.

this was a good article on installing a window. I also found several videos on installing windows in trailer conversions

    https://parkedrangers.com/van/windows

I’m currently build 733 which should be starting any time! Counting down the weeks!

I don't have mine yet and wonder if the frame would get in the way of them

you could just not use the door that you put the window on... keep the stress off the hinge. have a window on one side and the door on the other side.

@copsnok my dog is in a pretty burly, locked crate when we're parked so I'm not as worried about that – I'm pretty comfortable leaving panels up in most places I frequent. This window would be used primarily while driving.

@localflow You are going to love it! Van windows seem like a pretty good option. I think it's pretty doable (no different than adding to a van) but I'm definitely worried about the weight, and would really hate to give up the utility of the side access. :/

I'm casually looking at the grates used for gun/sled dog box trucks (see attached) but they aren't as common and might be harder to work with.

If worst comes to worst, I'll insulate the crap out of it and run a redneck swamp cooler to keep the air inside cold. Fortunately in MT the hot season is short lived.

I was really worried about a vent. But, with the frame - and weight of a window - I figured it just wasn't worth it.

I put a temp gauge on the dog's crate (Sensor Push) and I can get an alert if the temp gets to high.

I just put a vent in the roof so we'll see how well that works out this summer.

It works pretty well to just open things up when you stop.

Good to hear. Did you do the fan-tastic mod for the roof vent or something else?

That is a bed rug. You can purchase just the floor portion on eBay.
