Ya my dad has a Tundra and that thing just is too big. I used to have an 07 Silverado classic Duramax Ext Cab. That was nice to drive around because the size was still the smaller body style. But damn my dads Tundra feels huge and I couldn’t see myself driving that every day.

How rich do you have to be to sell a new truck because the nav sucks? I can't relate. Tacoma for me is a work truck and sometimes my office too. As far as there being a lot of Tacomas being sold used, that has to be because there were a lot sold new a few years ago. I'm happy with my 2016 manual; it should be good for 6-10 more years.

    The Tacoma is luxuriously lethargic.

Love my 19 Pro. Have two car seats in the back with no issues. My
Family is rarely altogether and when we are we use my wife’s Tahoe. I may sell the Taco if the Rivian or Nikola truck live up to their stats.

Many 3rd gen sellers are afflicted by what's known as TW Syndrome. It's a terrible ailment of the mind, of which the victim is brainwashed into hating their truck through repeated exposure to posts by others that can't be happy the truck doesn't meet their arbitrary standards.

    Incurable.

This information is brought to you by absolutely no scientific facts whatsoever.

So, I just did this giant ass marketing paper on Toyota Motor Corporation and how they should move forward and actually addressed some of this.
Imo, there are a few things going on with the market. First, following the recession, we've got this giant boom of people willing and able to buy bigger, and most people that can, will. A 4Runner might not seem bigger, but on principal, in many ways it is, and it's a bit better off-road. Second, a lot of people really will buy a vehicle for more advanced tech. There are a lot of people out there would would consider a Toyota if the tech was on par with other companies, but Toyota has been kinda behind on that for a while. Also, from personal experience, living in the Midwest you just get a barrage of hate for driving a Toyota truck; people around here really defend the domestic brands.
None of this stuff would make most people who browse TW change their minds really, but from a newer consumer standpoint, Toyota does look a bit behind, and when you get into other people's vehicles, it's a different experience. Enough I'm sure to make some people want something "bigger and better"
All of this will change in time. As the economy begins to crash and people worry about gas again, people will downsize again. It's all a cyclical thing. People will always buy vehicles for off-road purposes, but it's kind of a trend right now, so I think we will see less young people in communities like this soon as it phases out of trend as well.
    There's a lot to consider.
Out of the people we know near us who own Toyotas, I know a few who are thinking about ditching them. All for something either bigger or newer. People who used to rant and rave about their trucks now complaining about them all the time because they beat them up and they think it's Toyota's fault. Always going to be people like that, too.
Other than those few, I haven't personally really witnessed this trend much.

The new CEO is really committed to making new Toyotas look aggressive; "no more boring Toyota" but I think this frame of mind could end up leaving a lot of long time consumers behind. Personally, I don't want an
    "agressive" c o r o l l a
That just doesn't make sense. It's a dinky car, it's supposed to be.
The more electronics you shove into a vehicle too, I feel the more stuff you have to fix in the future, which could kind of hurt Toyota's reputation for reliability. Time will tell I guess, but I can live without the touch screens and fancy electronics, but that's something your average consumer is going to want.
Just seems like there's a bit of a rift in the market between older adopters and newer buyers. Toyota is just trying to figure out how to balance all of that.

I've considered trading for a 4Runner but it looks like we'll have a second Toyota in the family in the next couple years so I don't have to get rid of my Tacoma. I thought I'd want a double cab initially but I've fallen in love with my access cab and there's no going back. I'm never having kids so I'm golden!
All that being said I think I'd go 3rd gen 4Runner since a second (big) payment isn't terribly sensible with a mortgage.

I’m not bashing them at all I am still actually considering getting one. All I was saying with this posts, is that I have noticed a few folks moving on and was curious whether it was a vehicle issue or rather just a change in their own personal circumstances. It is certainly not a money issue at all for me.

i have 2 girls (5&2) both are in car seats & yes the car seats take up a lot of space back there, but their not gonna be in car seats forever, so i'm dealing with it for now.

You sure about that? If anything it’s probably similar. I have a coworker that owns a 19 F150 with the 5 liter and he’s getting better fuel mileage than be by long shot (via the instrument cluster). And he’s got a higher payload capacity/towing and more interior space. I’m trading mine next year

I think a lot of people just like buying vehicles. My Dad would get a new vehicle every few years and I had the bug for a while but as I've grown older its tapered off. There are so many new car and used car dealerships around in my city and as a whole the state is pretty poor but the the majority stay in business and do well long term. When I see a used Tacoma on any lot its usually gone in a few days. I went to Carmax when I was looking to trade in my Jeep and the Tacomas they had recently listed were all sold or on a hold of some kind. The only things they had left were Colorados and Frontiers and all of them seemed over priced. So it may seem like a lot of people are selling but a lot of people are buying as well.
