This is why I was curious about the time. This event ends up being to late in the day for me. But if we started at 11 it would likely overlap I would think?

Yeah, I feel like it wouldn't be a great day to be there with an afternoon event going on.

Thanks for the link. I hate facebook personally, and don't go on there except to follow links.

It would overlap. The facebook page says they have 30 with over 100 on top of that interested, in going to the meet. Not sure how many are actually going off road.

    Agreed.

With that in mind, I am thinking this will be the next run:

    Sunday March 15
11 AM Meet up at North Plains Chevron
10025 NW Glencoe Rd, North Plains, OR 97133

    Browns Camp OHV

Stock on the drivetrain. PO did some lighting mods, head unit and speaker upgrade is in progress and there is a Victory 4x4 roof rack on order. A friend is building me a bed rack, hoping to have that by summer.

Curious how the GMSR radios worked out on the last run? Did you guys have enough distance from them to communicate well enough?

My friends and I (there are 5 of us total) have used FRS/GMRS walkie talkies on all of our adventures and they've worked quite well.

Thanks. I’ve been debating adding other coms to my truck but think I’ll stick with my BiMart Black Friday FRS/GMRS radio special for a while longer.

    Welcome aboard!

The radios are perfect for this use. I had mine on low power to conserve battery. At one point last time out we were fairly separated due to a steep snow covered hill. At the bottom I lost contact with the guys at the top. Not sure exactly how far apart we were. I am fairly confident had the radios been on high power we would have still been in contact. As it was the guys a bit closer could hear me.

The radios I have are linked at the bottom of this page. I highly recommend them.

Good to hear. Over the years I’ve gone back and forth with cobras and midlands and the midlands have always worked better. I picked these up for $30 bucks on Black Friday 4 years ago. Not quite as good as the GXTs but they work.

If they work I wouldn't replace them. I did bring extra batteries last time. Didn't end up having to use them, but it was nice knowing I had them if needed.

The GMRS I picked up (Midland MXT 105) has 5 watts of power (I think your guys handhelds might be the same), and was $70 at BiMart, AND you get to have a fun little microphone to boot and a magnetized antennae to slap up top when you're wheelin'. Plus no worries about batteries as you can use the 12v plug or hardwire it in.

The next step up was over $100 but provides the ability to hit repeater towers and greatly extend the range, I believe it was 15 watts. I'm going to take this one back and pick the 115 up. I debated forever and since you guys had GMRS just went for it, CB seems to be going by the wayside, sort of, I'm sure someone has a very different view on that than I.

I'm going to pick up a single handheld for spotting and such.

If it hadn't taken me all damn day to put a beautiful set of Tundra calipers/rotors and new stainless steel brake lines on the little black truck today, I would have reached out to see if anyone wanted to go play at Brown's since I have some contract work to do the 15th, but alas...have a blast, catch you guys next time.
