While I think sales people are the scum of the earth, and car salespeople are worse than that, you can't blame them for this imo. If he did roll a bunch of negative equity into it he's a grown man who made that choice, I'm 99.99% positive the salesperson didn't hold a gun to his head and force him to buy it, although I'm sure some would love to use that tactic, because they are scum.

He is correct KBB max trade around 28K and max private sale 31K and none of the upgrades would make a difference.

Could always take the upgrades off and sell them to recoup some of it. May take a bit depending on what it is.

way to high. I just purchased a 2020 TRD OR DCLB in January and it was $37,700 before tax and license. I imagine yours might be in the low 30k-32k range and the dealer would probably sell it for 35k-37k. That’s just from what I saw when looking at trucks for the past 6 months in my area.

"we can keep your payments the same as what you are paying for now! Just a 96 month note! But don't worry about that you'll be dead before you pay it off!" I've learned that there's a lot of people who were just never taught money management and have to learn the hard way

Yeah bro, you’re not getting 38k for it. The best bet is to keep if it you can and cut elsewhere or sell it for a loss and buy a beater until you’re in a better financial spot.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
But it doesn't have Entune or push to start, no skewp and you're not surrounded by airbags and cupholders.

Know where I can find one? :D

Sounds like it's time to setup a strong budget and start overpaying on your car payments for the near future. Debt doesn't disappear unless you make it.

Find someone who really likes your truck and let them take over the payments/loan. You will end
up with "zero" but you would be out of your situation. The odds are slim for this but think about
over the past two years of anyone that has told you that they really like your truck and offer it
    to them.

nothing posted on the forum is going to actually help him..... he needs to limit his monthly bills, alter his style of living, take on more hours at work, brown bag his lunch and slowly chip away at his expenses.

the replacement vehicle he is considering is an older limited trim 4 runner, why limited? If you're poor live like a poor person, living above his means has got him into this mess.

While true, the response that spurred the comment you responded to is a useful as saying cheese is good.

Not true at all, he can learn a lot about what to do and not to do when buying or selling a vehicle. It won’t get him out of his current situation but he can learn something.
