2009 OR with 240k+ miles on it. Came out and started the truck up this morning and this light came on under the check engine light. What does this light mean? I tried asking on Facebook and got a bunch of shit ass trolling so please serious answers only so I can diagnose this and fix my truck. Also someone said it's the traction control light saying tc is off but when I hit the button for it a separate light comes on.

It comes on with your check engine light, so yes it’s disabled because of the cel.. so scan your codes and report back

why the hell would you ask facebook?

Im gonna put money on leaky gas cap, (or worse leaky evap system), given the fact that it occurred after it had been sitting for awhile which is typically when the evap pump runs its check. Put some vasoline around the gasket of the gas cap and tighten it down real good. Clear codes and see if it comes back.

I asked on the Toyota Tacoma Enthusiast page because I've never had any trolling for other posts until this post. Lesson learned. I am a new owner of a Tacoma. I drove it to work and back yesterday with no lights then started it this morning and this happened.

Yup, 99% positive evap code, likely gas cap. Scan for codes, see what it says, if its anything evap related, do the above make sure the surfaces of the filler neck / gas cap gasket are clean and then put a lil Vaseline or grease on it to further the sealing abilities of the rubber gasket.

But if you resolve the check engine light.. the traction light should go off with it.. I had a misfire in my 2014 a few months ago due to a bad spark plug. Both CEL and Traction light came on.. fixed the misfire and all back to normal.

Honestly any speculation on what could be causing the check engine light is pointless. Unless there are symptoms and/or codes it's really just a shot in the dark until you know more. Often when the CEL comes on the traction control is disabled just in case the issue that is causing the CEL to light up could interact poorly with the traction control. It's a safety measure. That is why you see that light illuminated right now. If there aren't any obvious things going on with the truck pull the trouble codes and go from there.

    This right here ^^^^^

Many vehicles will use a combination of other warning lights with the Check Engine Light to indicate common issues like the evap system (i.e. loose gas cap) so that you don't have to pull codes. While this is clever often these combinations aren't actually documented anywhere!

So at this point don't even bother considering there is something wrong with the traction control system. Likely there isn't. Go get the codes pulled.

A sudden CEL in the morning is very often the evap system because one of the checks the ECU does is watching the pressure in the gas tank during an engine off period of a few hours. So if you have a loose gas cap or a bad seal on the gas cap causing a slow leak the ECU is going to first detect it overnight. So @nd4spdbh has a very, very likely guess here. And if he is right this will not reset itself until the truck spends another night with no slow leak. So pull the codes, if it is evap then reset it and get the leak fixed by either tightening the cap if it was loose, cleaning the seal area or getting a new cap.

Truck is old enough it could certainly be something else so definitely pull the codes. But evap is a really good guess.

I have a scan tool and checked the code.It was showing a misfire on a cylinder can't remember which one.I reset the code it cleared. So I swapped the coil with a different cylinder. When the light came back on.It was showing the cylinder that I swapped the coil with.So I bought a new coil replaced the coil on that cylinder with a new one. After I changed it and reset the code it never came on again. That's was the issue with mine.I wouldn't just start changing parts. But it's something to look into
