Looking to replace my burnt out fog lights with some standard bulbs. Nothing fancy.

Got the bulb out of the housing and the connection looks different than the replacement, and anything I have found online.

Doesn’t look like a simple unplug and plug in new bulb to me. Or maybe I’m overthinking it. Looks like that bulb is hard wired.

Looks after market HID, is there a ballast near by?

don’t have much electrical knowledge, but there is about 1 ft of wire heading to a little box.

Interesting that it is aftermarket. I bought the truck used 3 years ago and that is the only thing that wasn’t completely stock. Even had the Goodyears on it.

are HID replacements expensive or complicated? Thanks for your help.

Remove the capsule (bulb) and the ballast behind it. The original connector should be connected to the other lead coming off the ballast. Plug that into the new halogen bulb.

Whichever bulb type you use as replacements, avoid touching the glass part of the new bulbs with your fingers. Oil from your skin can cause the bulbs to fail prematurely.

Those things must have been blinding in there! But definitely HIDs. I would recommend just getting a standard bulb to replace it.

Thanks for the help. Of course I got a pretty sweet curveball now. Took the lead from the ballast off the original connector and one of the wires was corroded. Seems like that was my problem. Now the male part from the ballast is broken off in the female connector.

Any more helpful advice from here is appreciated. Not really looking to take it to a shop right now and drop a couple hundred bucks to get my fog lights back up. What would I have to do to make sure everything is kosher without replacing those connectors?

Both sides are the same corroded broken mess.

You can re-pin that existing connector but you will need to replace that terminal connector inside the plug since it is corroded and broken. It would probably be easier to just replace that male connector coming from the HID ballast. You can get them on Amazon for like 5 bucks a pair. The OEM female plug looks a bit corroded as well.

Really only concerned with the female plug. Just want to put some standard halogens back in. The connector pins from the HID ballast are stuck in the female end. What to do with the female end is my question now.

Hit it with some electrical contact cleaner and try to extract that broken pin out of the OE connector with some tweezers. If you can’t get it out, go to your local auto parts store and pick up a new H11 connector. Then cut off the old and splice in the new.
