I ordered the OME 3 inch lift and was wondering how to install the leaf pack? I know usually the leaves are on the bottom of axle but the ones I have on now are on top of the axle. Which way would be the best way to install them? And why is it that someone changed the location? Thanks

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

The leaf springs are not normally under the axle... on a Tacoma.

Some Chevys etc maybe... But Tacoma is always on top of the axle (unless it has been modified).

You take the old leaf out and you put the new leaf in.

Not everyone is as brilliant as you @jbrandt and it wasn't too long ago that you wore diapers and didn't know how to speak.

Ok... 6 lug Tacomas are ALWAYS spring over.

Considering he's doing OME 3 inch leaf springs, what I said is accurate for his application.

I always forget we even talk about 5 lug.

You have a Prerunner therefore you are not spring under unless modified for it.

With that being said, its easy -

Remove shocks. Lift by diff, remove wheels, support frame, and support diff.

Break loose u bolts. Loosen both front bolt and rear at the shackles. Remove u bolts. Remove shackle bolts and shackles.

Remove leaf pack. Prep for install of new leaf pack, shackle bushings, etc.

Maneuver new leaf pack and loosely bolt in the rear shackle.

Expect this. Front eyelet won't align.

    Use this to achieve alignment.

Snug bolts for front eyelet and assemble u bolts. Snug tight your bolts.

Install wheels. Lower vehicle to allow suspension to support vehicle. Torque to spec.

    Balls not required, but recommended.

    Win at life.

Edit: this install follows spring over as done so by the factory.

    I know.

And that's been my cross to bear for over 40 years now.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is serious or just trolling, espeically when they're not sure which side of the axle his springs should be.

This is also one of those questions that could easily be answered with a simple search. There are many threads on the topic.

“Are you serious” come on guys, don’t be the forum full of dicks. This is my first prerunner. I wouldn’t ask a question if I already knew. Just trying to get more insight. Clearly a lot of guys on here know what’s going on so I figured I’d create a thread. Pl

Take it with a grain of salt

You asked a question on a subject that yields at least 2 new threads per day and could've easily stumbled upon many answers already.

Even a google image search of the words "1st gen tacoma leaf pack" will bring you back to Tacomaworld with a wealth of information.

With that being said, use the information I provided above.

I did that write up at a Best Buy parking lot while waiting for a friend at night. Killed a good 5 minutes or so but it's to the point so now I just copy paste it.

I guess I'm the dickhead this time around...

Since you were serious, I apologize for appearing blunt and assholey.

But the way you wrote your post made it seem like you weren't even sure which side of the axle YOUR springs should be on since you did ask why someone would have switched them. And honestly, that screams troll to me. There are plenty of those folks who stir the pot, and sometimes it's hard to tell.

There is a wealth of information out there, and OME Dakars have nearly as many threads as people posting about their MPGs, or people asking how big of a tire will fit on their truck.
